After 5 years of braces, I was informed about a month ago, that I have a great deal of root reabsorption, and I will probably lose some of my upper front teeth. Meanwhile, I have to keep the braces on to hold the teeth in place and no other professional can re-evaluate me with the braces in place.

I am heartbroken and I have no more money and no where to turn. I need advice.

Sorry to hear of your situation. I'm shocked that your ortho did not monitor your roots closely so that your treatment could be modified or terminated long before now. Nevertheless, I would see a periodontist pronto...you can be evaluated with the braces on. Perios in my area charge about $150 for a full exam including digital xrays. If finances are a factor, perhaps you could work out a payment plan, or go to a university dental school or a low-cost clinic. Bone grafts may be an option too. Best of luck to you.

I'm so sorry about your situation, Sweetsue.

As Jethro said, how come your ortho didn't monitor your roots during this 5 years? It's a LONG time.
Find another specialist, of course you can get checked with your braces on.

Best of luck.

Thank you for your responses. That is some great advice. I am hoping to get an evaluation from a dental school that happens to be in my town and I am going for a consult with a prosthodontist today.

This has been a very frustrating experience, but I have hope that a miracle will happen and I will get the monies to ensure that my treatment will be completed and the results will be something that I can happily live with. I am doing alot of research on my own, and I will be asking about bone grafts, and any other new treatments that are available for my situation. Right now, I am sick of wearing braces, especially when I know they are not really doing anything. I want to be free.
