Wow girl! I am loving your pink ligs! I'm so sorry to hear that your poor mouth is taking a beating right now though. That totally sucks. :( So do you know when you'll have your first "adjustment"? Or are they going to wait until they can get all of your teeth hooked up? I am sooo excited to watch your progress!!!

Hi,
the pink ligs are great!
I know what you mean with the crooked teeth. I almost couldn't get brackets on two lower teeth because they were so out of line. We tried it and they stayed so far.
I hope your mouth feels better. The wax saved me for the first week of my braces!!!
take care,
Patricia

Hi Nikki,

YAY!! Image Good to see that you're on your way to the pretty new smile! Good pix for your record.

Nice that you got wire ties on your ceramics. No staining issues to worry about with them. Your pink lig combo is nice too. Image

It won't be long, that little wire will get you aligned. That wire may be tiny, but it's a hard worker. Image Then you can get those orphaned ones hooked up and in the game. July 22 will get here soon, then you'll be well on your way! Image

Hope you can handle the soreness for a few days! After about day three or four you'll get settled in. Then it'll be a breeze.

Hang in there! Ken. Image

Hey Nikki,

Lookin' good!!Image
I love your lig colours and it's great that your ortho uses wire tires so you don't have to worry about staining.

Sorry to hear your mouth is sore but it's normal(as I'm sure you know). Give yourself a few days to a few weeks and you'll be (almost) back to normal. Here's to you getting used to your braces quickly!Image

The important thing is that you have made the leap to color, as if to say, "yes I got braces. I'm not ashamed. I'm doing this for myself and by gosh I'm going to have a little fun with it."

GO GIRL!

Mike

WOW! CONGRATS Nikki they look great! I too love the ligs! If I was getting normal braces i would get purple if they had it! I'm sorry to hear your in a bit of pain but like my Nana used to say to my mom when she was a little girl ... it hurts to be beautiful! but its sooooo worth it! I can't wait to see how much they straighten by the time you get your extractions!

Is it a pain to eat? and does your speech sound different now with them in? Keep taking thos pictures and keep us posted!

Hey Nikki,

Great to hear things went well with your fitting - isn't it a relief to finally start the process! Nice to see your photos too.

I'm hearing you on those little pokey things on the inside of the molar bands - my tongue was so sore this morning, so I've been maxing out on the wax too, it's a great relief.

I've now got stockpiles of chapstick, toothbrushes and toothpaste dotted around the place...work.....home.....in my backpack.....heck, I'll probably stick some in the car glove box too.

Hope you get called in early for your extractions and they go well too.

Catch ya soon Brace Buddy!

Mike: Yup, I've been doing salt water rinses 2-3 times a day for those pesky sores. I didn't realize how quickly they would develop, and shame on me, I kept forgetting to do them BEFORE brace day  And ya, why not go with color? I do like to keep it discreet up top but the pink is like a fun little surprise under there

Skye: It is pretty rough right now but I'm sure it'll get better soon  I scheduled my adjustment before I scheduled the extractions and I think it's a week or so after the 22nd. However the ortho said to call and let them know when the extractions were scheduled because they want to get me in same day if possible because I'll be all numbed up and they can really crank me down and get stuff moving into those gaps  Yay for progress! I can't WAIT for your brace day!

Patricia: Thanks! The wax really is a life saver!

Ken: Thanks! You know, I actually hadn't considered that I'd see much movement before the 22nd... that would be awesome! I just figured with how crowded my teeth are without the extraction gaps there isn't anywhere for them to go - I'm excited all over again!

Jenny: Thanks! Ya I know this pain is normal... I sure hope my boyfriend realizes for all the whining I'm doing I'm still so happy that I am doing this!

Peggy: Thanks! Beauty is pain, beauty is pain... that should be my mantra  As I said to Ken, that would be AMAZING if they straighten any by the 22nd! It is a pain to eat... I'm not eating anything solid and right now it even hurts to open my mouth for yogurt because of the sores but I'm toughing it out  I don't think my speech sounds different but I have noticed that I just... can't really talk straight. I get words really mixed up and I usually don't do that... not sure why that is :?

Perth Lad: It is SO relieving to have finally got this underway! Ya I really don't know what's on the inside up there but I have two molar bands on each side on the top and they were KILLER! Hehe I also have my "accesories" every imaginable, and I do definitely need to pick up more wax and another travel toothbrush today!

Maybe your mixing up words cause your thinking about it so much! I know if I concentrate too hard on doing somthing I mess up too!... Im afraid of how my lips are going to fit over my brackets and that it will look like i got a mouth full of water all the time! hehe yea I guess im pretty nervous

Glad to see your getting everything on the ball with thos extractions you were wanting! good luck with them!

CONGRATS!! You did it! It sounds like you've been in some pain but nothing out of the ordinary at all. I don't have anything in my mouth yet and it's starting to ache just reading your story... but, like everyone says, you are just one step closer to being done! The extractions will be here before you know it... though it may be impossible, just try and focus your attention on something else and the time will fly.

So which do you think was worse? The spacers or the braces? It looks like I'm getting spacers and brackets on the same day... and then the wires a week later when the spacers will come out. Extractions will hopefully be about two weeks later (after I get used to everything and decide I really want to go through with it- lol!).

Peggy: Thanks! I was worried about the way my mouth look closed too but it's not so bad. The only noticeable thing (I think) is that I have to put wax on the upper "fang" brackets and that makes them stick out quite a bit more, but I've learned to cover it pretty well

Shannon: Thanks! My guess is the teeth that aren't in the archwire will go in after the extractions, when things really start moving!

KLC: Thanks! Spacers were hands down the worst part so far. With those I couldn't sleep well and medicine didn't help too much, but with these I sleep great at night, tylenol takes care of the pain, and I have wax to cover anything that causes a sore. My sores are already almost gone and my teeth ache only slightly now. I love braces!

Hmm, is it just me or has that top wire straightened out a little? I'll take pictures when they've been on a week so you guys can be the judge

Peggy: I've been eating a lot of yogurt, applesauce, soup, and oatmeal. Today was actually my first "real food" experience in a week and a half and I LOVED IT! I had enchiladas and nachos for lunch and it really didn't hurt too bad, I just had to use my molars to chew. It's not nearly as bad as I thought it would be at work - in fact I haven't gotten a single comment from a person if I didn't bring them up first. The people that I do get into the conversation with are very encouraging. All in all these last couple days have been nothing like I imagined; relatively pain-free and not at all humiliating 8) Don't worry, you'll be great!
