Sparkletooth's story :)

#1 Post by sparkletooth »

I posted here sometime last year...what a sad username

I have raised canines and a slight overbite.
I was suppose to get braces when I was younger but was told to wait a few years.
Now I am 18 and have finally started!

Anyway, on Monday I started was given my first appliance...
From what I looked up I'm pretty sure it's a bite plate...I'll post some photos when I get my camera back tomorrow :)

It is still pretty painful. I have a slight lisp and can't really eat much with it...
But hopefully I will get use to it.
It is not visable so I suppose that's a pro...

Anyone else have experience with one of these?

Here are my teeth before:

I didn't have a bite plate but years ago I had an expander (RPE) and I had major trouble speaking at first.

I thought I would w/ braces but so far I don't seem to. However yesterday my family said they can tell I am not saying certain words properly. I was like, really??

I personally can't tell when I am not pronouncing certain words but I guess other can and are polite enough not to make fun or correct me! lol

I do catch myself having trouble saying certain things. I am a fast talker so I found that certain sentences I have to slow down to speak

I had a bite plate and the most irritating thing about it (beside not being able to talk properly of course! ) was that every time a ate or drank, things would get stuck under it because it kept popping out. My ortho said not to worry about it because luckily i would only have it for a couple of months and there wasn't too much they could do...if they tightened it i wouldn't be able to get it off!! Mine was only used to keep me from biting off a bracket....The passage that KK gave is a good one. It DOES get better i promise!!
