TPA & Molar Movement

#1 Post by sedona »

I am currently wearing a TPA to rotate one of my upper molars.
Now I am noticing that that molar is not only rotated, but also moved backward.
What will need to occur to move the other molar?
Now the 2 molars are uneven -- the rotated molar is farther back in my mouth.
How will my ortho get them even again?
Will the TPA do this?
Or will he need to do something else -- such as headgear?
TIA

TPA

TPA's are powerful and versatile appliances. Rotating molars on one side yields distal movement of the opposite molar. My only guess is that both of your molars are being rotated and one side is activated more than the other causing the one of them to shift distally. I would not be concerned. Distalization is simple to "burn" when we want to be rid of it and usually relapses on adults when we want to keep it.
