New in Braces

#1 Post by TheTerminatori1000 »

Hello I'm Paul I'm 20 years old and i got braces one week ago!!
I was thinking to get invisiling at first but my otho told me i can't wear that kind of braces becouse my overbite, so it was clear braces or metal. He sayed "clear will be more expensive and the treatment will be larger than with metal braces". Finally i decided to be a classic metal-mouth and i got metal.
The first thing i discovered was that i couldn't close my lips normally, the top lip sticked out and i felt horrible about it. Now i'm okay with them, i mean the lip still sticks out but i think it does less than seven days ago. But there is another problem, now when i smile i can see my top gum and it didn't use to happen.
My ortho told me that i was going to wear braces at least 2 years, those who had overbite, How long did you wear braces?

Hi there!

Since it’s been a couple months, have you noticed a difference in your lip sticking out and gums showing?

I’m in the same boat as you - I was braced in July, had moderate upper crowding and a 100% overbite, and have a 20-24 month treatment timeframe. My ortho’s plan has been to start straightening my uppers first, have 2 pre molars extracted on top to help align my teeth correctly with my lowers, then start adjusting my bite. Just had the extractions yesterday, and lower braces are being added in about 6 weeks, so I’m anxious to see what the next phase will be like - I’ve heard about so many different ways overbites are fixed and I honestly don’t know what my ortho plans to use/do.

sorry for having answered so late. I think i get used to my new thick lips hahaha, my ortho told me that the braces make lips look bigger during the process so when all this treatment were over my lips would have return to their normal position. My problem whith my gums dissapeared luckily. Next month i will start with the rubber bands. Now i have to say that it feels like I've used braces all my life   they´re like a part of me i think. And your treatment? Who is going?
