Hi.
I have been given a date in 2 weeks for my double jaw surgery to correct an overbite.
My question is for people who have experienced the NHS and how things work.
I have been booked in for an appointment with my ortho one week before the date I have been given for surgery but seems a bit short notice before surgery? My last visit I had the face bow which seems to mean surgery will go ahead. I'm just a bit concerned because I am a manager in my place of work and need to arrange cover for my time off. I don't want to agree cover to then find out that my surgery will not go ahead.
I will probably phone the hospital after new year but I just thought I'd see if anyone has been in a similar position to me. Did they send you a letter to confirm surgery or was it all done through your appointments?
Thanks in advance x

Re: UK NHS double jaw surgery questions
Seeing the orthodontist a week before surgery would probably be to attach the surgical hooks

Thank you. That's really helpful.

Re: UK NHS double jaw surgery questions
You should have been sent an inpatient surgical appointment letter usually scheduled for very early in the morning on your surgery date.
If you haven't received this yet speak with your orthodontist/surgeon/hospital secretary.
FYI you'll need to book yourself off work for roughly 4-6 weeks as you'll likely be wearing a splint post-op and be unable to speak.
