Hi all,
Today I have noticed that one of my front teeth is suddenly slighter longer than the other (had my braces on 6 months).
Is this normal? Will it go back again? (They are long enough as it is!).
Also, this tooth is what I call my dodgy tooth, it has had previous trauma and is partially dead at the root so now I'm panicking that it's falling out...

Don't worry, it's not likely to just fall out. Is it very mobile?
Even teeth that are mobile takes some strength to be yanked out. If your tooth just looks longer but does not actually feels longer (i.e. tooth edge is not level with adjacent tooth when it was previously before) then it could be gum recession, which is kinda to be expected.
If it is mobile, and your tooth actually looks somewhat "ejected" from it's socket, you might want to get the dead tooth situation checked out. Maybe call your ortho and ask?

Hi! Thank you, that's the reassurance that I was looking for haha.
The tooth is not mobile, it feels like a strong tooth, I just know that the root is not live.
It is the bottom level of the tooth edge which is no longer the same, this tooth is slightly lower at the bottom edge than it previously was. What else could cause that?

If you are not feeling pain, could your ortho be extruding that tooth? Another possible problem could be an abscess at the root tip, but then you would feel alot of pain. An xray would be able to tell that though.

How do you mean, extruding it?

Basically, pulling a tooth further out of its socket to make it longer or even length with the other teeth. Call your ortho if it is really bothering you.

Ah I see, I don't think as I would see no reason why he would need to do this.
I will bring it up at my next appointment.

Re: Front tooth suddenly longer
This happened to me as well and my ortho simply filed it down a bit. Very little, off course. Also my lower front teeth became longer than the others so she made a bend in the wire to pull them down. It hurt like hell for to days but now they are almost in level with the rest.
