I'm actually surprised it took this long, eight and a half-ish months, but a right rear lower molar bracket broke off yesterday afternoon. It was not the furthest back one, so no 'pokies' or other archwire issues to deal with, just have to keep attempting to remember to not chew on that side as much. Of course the orthodontist office is closed on Fridays, so it'll just have to wait until Monday. At least it happened before we head out on a backpacking trip Tuesday.

Even with the tiny setback, I'm still more than happy I vetoed invisalign and went semi old-school metal! I'll probably post a follow-up Monday after the fix.

Keep smilin' y'all!

Nice! That's a good streak. :-) I hope I last that long. :-)

I had my second adjustment last Tuesday and there was a kid there who had just had his braces put on. He lasted less than two days as he was there again on the Thursday (I was getting a wire trimmed) getting a bracket reattached. There is no privacy at my orthodontists office.

Wow!! You did great with going over 8 months. Hopefully I can last that long or longer. After 4 come off my ortho office charged $35 per bracket as the first four are free!!

The funniest part of this is I'm the first one in the family to lose one. My son is going on nearly two years and my wife has me by two months and neither has lost a bracket yet. I'm completely shocked at my son knowing the teenage little regard for chomping on stuff he does.

I do have a filling in that molar, so it's entirely possible that combo of tooth and filling where bracket attaches made it a bit weaker than if all real tooth or all fake stuff. Seems they use different adhesive for crowns etc.

It's not a great shot but there's the damage: Image http://instagram.com/p/MhdpzYwCRe/ .

Keep smilin' gang!

I had a bracket on my #6 molar that popped off after about a week on. I only had 4 lower brackets on for use with elastics to erupt my back molars so far so there wasn't a wire attached. It was on a crown. My orthodontist decided after that to do a build-up on the crown and replace it at the end of treatment so I will be bracket free when I finally get my lowers put on. Never did find that bracket....

Well it gets better (read worse), I call the ortho office first thing this morning and they're closed for the WEEK because of Independence Day on Wednesday. FAIL! Well hope I don't have any issues whilst out backpacking. I just don't like the thought of eating with a bracket loose against my tooth until 19 or 20 July. I wouldn't call it an emergency, but it's not exactly very cool in my opinion. Darn. :-(
