Does the ortho add a thicker archwire progressively? In my 2nd visit I have quite a thick one put in already, wondering if it can get even thicker?

what size are you wearing currently and which one you had previously?

i started with .014 on bottom and at my first adjustment 6 weeks later i was upgraded to .018. at my 2nd adjustment at 10 weeks i was given a steel wire. i think it is rectangular but not sure.

my uppers were fitted 10 weeks after my lowers and i thought i started with .014 as well, however i popped into my ortho office last week to get the wires changed as i have white wires which were losing their coating and i heard him telling the assistant to pass a .016 so i am abit puzzled if i had started with the .016 or he changed it then from .014 to .016. i will have to ask him when i go in for my next adjustment on 21st april.

I think you can only move to thicker wires when your ortho is confident that the brackets won't break off under too much pressure.

ie. if you put a thick wire on teeth that are too crowded then the force is way too high which is why thin wires with a heat-sensitive memory are used to tidy them up enough to move onto thicker wires.
