What have you gotten stuck in your braces today?(v. lettuce)

#1 Post by purpleteeth »

We all know that food and other things just tend to get stuck in our brackets and wires, but what has gotten stuck today? What have you ventured to eat, despite knowing you will spend time later on plucking out??

For me, it was a salad. I miss raw veggies so much and I have had trouble chewing/ grinding for over a week now --- but I was tired of soft foods --- so I went for it. Lettuce and raw broccoli and cheddar cheese got everywhere, but it was soooooo worth it!!!

What about you? What have you gotten stuck in your braces today???

I had angel hair pasta with tomatoes in it. The little noodles get lodged behind the little elastic prongs and the tomato skin wraps around the wire.
A nightmare to fix but delicious to eat.

I never have too too much trouble getting things stuck in my teeth! Maybe I eat slower or take smaller bites... who knows.

The one thing that does give me some trouble is something with soft bread that I bite into... for example: hamburgers, sandwiches, etc.

Just ate some homemade chipotle sauce chicken barbecue in tortillas with lots of cheese. I swear I spent as much time plucking food residue out and cleaning as I did eating in the first place!
It was tasty, even if chewing was still quite the experience!

Spinach - the cooked, chopped variety. What a mess! I was home though, so I could clean before anybody had to see me. I was feeling like I hadn't been eating healthy enough. I'll remember not to eat that in the presence of others. Yuck!

I had Chipotle for lunch and I had the burito bowl, so there was rice, cilantro, chicken, chunky tomato salsa, etc... I got back to my office and ran right to the bathroom to go brush my teeth! :D

Bean skins. don't like meat, nuts or peanut butter so I get my protein from beans but golly it's a pain trying to get those skins off my brackets!! I also had oats for breakfast so half of my breakfast stuck to my braces.
I also got tons of grape skins stuck...

Hot Fries are one of my favorite between-meal snacks. They're soft, so I'm ok there. But they get stuck EVERYWHERE. Between my teeth, in and around my brackets... just everywhere. They're awesome, but I'm going with what many before me posted... cleaning them out of my braces takes as much time (if not more) than it does to actually eat them. Oh well!

This thread cracks me up! I'm glad to see a few newbies (with braces less than a month) in good spirits eating pretty normal food! I love the tickers! They're a great way to see where everyone else is at in their treatment!!! I'm loving this whole forum!

I first read this thread as I dove into a dinner of rice and veggies -- and let me tell you rice + broccoli = NOT easy to clean.
Grains of rice and tiny pieces of broccoli all over.
I'm also still at work and forgot my mini toothbrush so now I have to avoid talking to anyone before I leave in case I missed anything during my quick rinse.

This is not fun!

My entire snack at work tonight:
- cheetos (hard ones, yes... eaten carefully)
- chocolate zinger cakes
- cheese stick and beef stick

 U all are so funny!! Funny u should ask what has gotten stuck in teeth cuz just last nite I was eating egg with chorizo (mexican sausage) and beans. My 11 yr old daughter got her braces in Dec. and she never seems to have a prob. with food sticking so I called her to the bathroom after I had eaten and showed her my prebrushed, just eaten teeth!! She was like  eeeeewwwwww mom!!!!!!! Seems when I eat half of food gets stuck!
I have become obsessed with brushing and listerine. I have used those little flossing brushes (ones that look like baby bottle brushes) but I am afraid I will bend the wires :( Is this possibe or are wires pretty durable?

Broccoli is truly evil! It's yummy but all those teeny tiny little pieces it's made up of are impossible to get rid of!
Ditto couscous.
And spaghetti manages to wind itself round everything unless I chew tiny amounts really carefully.

Glad to know I'm not the only one! I think I must pull some really funny faces at my friends across the lunch table at work as I try to dislodge things with my tongue - not a good look!

Seems like EVERYTHING I eat gets stuck :(

Meat, rice, noodles, veggies, pop corn... and no, I don't NOT eat anything cos of braces, except if it's too hard for me to chew especially when my molars are tender.

I've solved that problem by packing my metal curved toothpick (sold as a traveller's plaque picker) in my Brace Relief Pocket Kit. I do get funny stares when I publicly pick at my braces/gaps with it

The worst are small flat pieces of chili flakes or veggie flakes... you can't really FEEL them but they are SO visible  I've learnt to quickly overview my smile in a mirror after meals. I LOVE my BRPK!
