Midline Correction

#1 Post by Chris »

Lets talk midlines.

How long did it take to correct yours with elastics?

Did the midline shift back after the elastics were removed?

Mine took roughly two weeks (but I wore the elastics for 6 weeks), and it never shifted back.

it took about 2 months to correct my midline -- and YES it did shift back for me after stopping the elastics. I am near the end of my treatment, and my midline is about 2mm off -- i'm okay with it--considering what my teeth was like BEFORE braces -- i can live with a sightly off center midline (it's because my jaw was not align since I had a underbite/openbite)

I don't know how long it wil take to just correct my midline alone, but i will have elastics for 6-8 months. :x (my midline is around one and a half teeth off from where it is suppose to be.)I also have a mild overbite, so that might add some time to it.

It will vary based on the deviation of your midline and if it is off because of a dental or skeletal discrepancy. It can take a few weeks or many months. A stable balanced occlusion will help retain the proper midline after you stop with elastics. But it is very possible for it to shift back in certain cases.

well i never needed elastics even tho at the beginning my midline was off

when they pulled my teeth together with powerchains, it just aligned perfectly
Always listen to your heart, cause even though it's on your left, it's always right.

Not that I know of, not saying it can be done by an experienced ortho. But I wouldn't personally try it.
