Closing gaps with retainer?

#1 Post by MetalManda »

Hi there,
I have had braces for almost 3 years and I have one small extraction gap still to be closed. My extraction date is set just under a month a way but I don't know if this gap is going to be closed.
I have read things where people have said it is sometimes possible to close gaps using the retainers.
My question is has anyone had this done, and does it actually work?

it would depend on the size of the gap, for starters... i had a molar extracted and no way could that gap be closed with a retainer! i had one tooth that shifted a bit at the end of my treatment though, and it's being nudged back into place with an essix.
