I realize this is a really old post but maybe you can have false 'flipper' type teeth bonded to a permanent retainer? Usually if you have congenitally missing teeth, implants after braces are the preferred choice so no work has to be done to healthy teeth but those are also pretty expensive.

How funny is this, my lower arch looks very similar to yours - mine was not perfectly aligned either apparently. I would second the comment that most people do get bonded ones - at least lowers. My ortho had said that was normal practice unless there was a specific reason why not.
