I feel that my crooked teeth have definitely held me back. I was always worried about what people were thinking when I smiled/laughed/talked. Every time I met someone new, I could always feel them staring at my mouth. We all know how much of a problem bullying is and children tend to pick on small d...

It's definitely worth it. I'm glad I waited until I matured - I don't think I would have handled it as well if I was 9 or 10.

I knew that about deductions, but when my co-worker explained it to me, he made it sound as if I would get the whole amount back. Thanks for sorting it out, though. My orthodontist never took photos. I assumed that my mouth wasn't a "special case" that needed to be documented. However, the...

Apparently braces are really big in Asian countries. Kids even go to the extent of buying fake braces to put across their teeth! Because braces are expensive, having them is a sign of wealth so I guess they all want to look rich!

When are elastics used?

The orthodontist has not mentioned elastics to me, so I'm not sure when they are used. I assume that they are used to pull teeth into line... am I correct? My bottom teeth have started to straighten out, but I have noticed that they are on an angle. Will I need elastics at the front of my teeth to p...

My oral surgeon told me what teeth he'd be removing and the risk of nerve damage to teeth. It is a very small risk, so nothing to be nervous about. Basically, he told me everything that was covered in a booklet he gave me to read. And I still got charged $70. I'm thinking of changing professions... ...

Lots of juice! It was the best thing for me. After you get your teeth taken out, you won't be getting as many vitamins as you usually do, so try to get a juice with lots of vegetables or fruit in it. I drank a lot of those "day's worth of fruit" juices. Delicious!

I was heavy on the instant chicken soups when I first got my braces on. They have done the most damage so far. But instant soup is great when I'm at work, so it's hard to avoid!

Re: Little Extras

That is really nice! I don't get that at my orthodontist! The best thing I have gotten is a goody bag filled with dental wax, toothbrush, etc... but that's standard.

Bec's Braces Battle

I wanted braces ever since all of my adult teeth grew in. My mouth was not big enough for all those teeth and it resulted in severe crowding. All through highschool, I begged my mother to get me braces. She always replied with the same excuse - "I can't afford it". I was so insecure about ...
