Re: Orthodontist shaved bottom front teeth without telling me first
Teeth shaving (i.e. interproximal reduction aka IPR) removes only miniscule amounts of enamel and is frequently done for the reasons listed above. The sensitivity to cold should resolve quickly. I had IPR to both upper and lower teeth during my prior treatment and was very pleased with the result (t...

Re: Conflicting orthodontist opinions?
After viewing your pics, I must say that I think your teeth are beautiful. I agree that a Suresmile imaging scan may provide some info regarding possible tweaking of tooth alignment, but ultimately it's the ortho that determines the outcome. I'm currently in braces for the 3rd time due to some unusu...

Re: Does it really take two years?
Metal bands...lol. Everyone's timeline is different of course, but my last treatment time was estimated to be 18 months and ultimately took 2.5 years. My current treatment is estimated to take 12 months. We shall see.

Re: Bottom retainer broke
I agree with the others: without a retainer your teeth will shift. I'm in braces for the 3rd time due to failed retainers. You have been warned. LOL

Hey David, hope things are going well and that everything gets resolved this time. I'm a third timer also and understand how frustrating it can be. Here's to smooth sailing!

Re: Braces for the third time
Fortunately, I do not have short roots. I'm aware that root resorption can be an issue, particularly with re-treatment, so I've asked my ortho and dentist to monitor things closely. Here are some pics showing my current status (apologies for the unruly face fur).

Re: Do orthodontists ever use novacaine?
Woohoo to getting your braces off this summer! As for the novacaine, I'm not aware that orthos will administer it for braces removal, but you could certainly ask. Having been debonded twice before, I can say that removal is uncomfortable, but not painful. I would continue with the ibuprofen. From my...

Re: Braces for the third time
Interesting question, I hadn't thought of that perspective. So let's see, if my current treatment concludes at the 12-month mark, my lifetime total in braces will be 4.5 years. Waaaaay too long! Lol.

Re: Braces for the third time
Thanks for the kind words. The amount of correction needed in each area is relatively small, probably 2mm or less, far less than my original treatment. My friends and family were surprised that I needed braces again given that my teeth still look pretty straight. As for retainer wear, as I recall it...

Braces for the third time
Hey All, it’s been a while since I posted here, but wanted to share my on-going orthodontic adventures. Brief recap: had braces for 2.5 years between 2008-2011 for an anterior crossbite, crowding, rotations and midline correction. Received upper and lower bonded retainers, a Hawley retainer for the ...

Re: Smile aesthetics: what do YOU prefer?
Pre-treatment, my lateral incisors were 2+ mm shorter than my centrals, making my canines look fang-like (a result of prior orthodontic treatment). During the final treatment phase, the adjustment was made with a few (slightly painful) bends in the archwire resulting in the requested 1 mm differenti...
