Re: Damon braces
They’ll open all the gates and remove the wire. Depending on tooth movement they’ll keep the same wire or make a change. This round in Damon’s has a lot less pressure right after an adjustment than regular brackets. Your teeth might look worse before they look better. It’s a slow and steady as compa...

Re: Spacer stuck for >10 months
As a matter of fact; yes! It was in there for a while; the ortho assistants assumed it fell out. 6-8 weeks later I felt something odd and started with a piece of dental floss. Out popped a spacer. Guess it didnt fall out.

Re: June/July 2015 Surgery Buddies
I like the idea of invisalign; but in reality they didn't work for me all that well. Take them out to drink coffee, to eat, brush them, brush your teeth; then put them back in, put the elastics back on.... It was a pain. I was brushing my teeth at work in our bathroom and dropped an aligner on the f...

Re: June/July 2015 Surgery Buddies
Actually had an appointment last week; covid restrictions have been lifting near me. Slowly things are getting back to the way they were. A couple weeks after I started the Damons and elastics; I had a pop in my TMJ on my right. That shifted my bite about 2mm in that direction. I guess something was...

Re: New to braces - questions about bite!
Shifting bite is part of the treatment. Things might look, feel, or bite worse; before they look feel or bite better. Only biting on one molar is time to use caution. Be gentle on it. There can be a lot of force generated on that one tooth. Something to talk to your ortho about at your next appointm...

Re: Post Your COVID-19 Orthodontic Stories or Concerns
My ortho said emergencies only. Call them and they might be able to walk you through some things that can help without being seen at the office. With all the ortho work I've had done; I haven't had any emergencies. I've had some uncomfortable bracket issues and some breakages but nothing too emergen...

Re: Overbite correction surgery and tinnitus
Kinda strange; my tinnitus was A LOT less after surgery. Could just be inflammation in the area due to the surgery. Could quiet down after a few more weeks. A few years ago a member had hearing loss due to TMJD issues. The auditory nerves and structures are millimeters away from your mandibular join...

Re: June/July 2015 Surgery Buddies
Funny how this stuff never really ends... I got the first round of aligners last Wednesday. Attachments and rubber bands... At least I got to see where my teeth should be when I get through all the aligners. Jaime; sorry you're having some TMJ issues. Speaking from experience; it can become really b...

Re: Essix vs Hawley
I prefer Hawleys too; if they're made right. Essix do work; but if you clench or grind you might grind through them. One issue I have with Essix style retainers; they never let teeth actually touch. If they made them with a flat area that distributed the pressure simulating bare teeth together I'd l...

I can relate! My new orthodontist also mentioned rubber bands and attachments with my soon to be picked up aligners.
Starting March 3rd for about 14 months of treatment.
Good luck with your treatment!

Re: June/July 2015 Surgery Buddies
Not sure if any of us still check this anymore... After about 10 months of wearing my retainers religiously , things going OK; not great, with a distracted orthodontist that does things impulsively... My teeth were shifting due to him making unwanted changes to my retainer (without my knowledge; he ...

Re: Switching to metal brackets (anyone done it?)
I should have switched from ceramic to metal right after the newness of having braces (again) wore off. Slower treatment, more prone to damage, and physically bigger brackets. They're less visible; not invisible and no one cares about you having braces... I had all metal brackets the last year of tr...

Re: Braces BEFORE extractions?
Extraction orthodontics should be a last resort; not a first choice.
Just my personal opinion about it.
