Re: Front Teeth Extractions with Braces
To Amanda6: I meant to ask you how long it will take for your braces to move your teeth? Any idea? It has taken about 7 months to close the gap of my lower incisor. Not all orthodontists know how to change the bite for good TMJ function. That is why I am having my treatment with a Functional Orthod...

Re: Front Teeth Extractions with Braces
Hi Everyone! Has anyone out there had to have their front tooth or teeth extracted along with getting their braces put on? I have to have my two lower front teeth extracted. I have such severe bone loss where those teeth are that an implant would not screw into the bone. So I have to have the brace...

Re: Recomend me the best
I have used the Morgan lip bumper, to fit over metal brackets. I had to use it as it was the wire that was cutting my mouth rather than the brackets. I didn't buy any though, I was just given some by my orthodontist as my mouth got quite sore. I'm pretty sure it's the Morgan lip bumper which I have,...

Re: Expansion or Extraction?
Sorry, this is unrelated to answering the actual topic - but I'd like to ask "Eurodude" - I recently got 4 bicuspid extractions for braces after coming across researches that say TMJ does not directly link to the shifting of jaws due to braces in many cases.. that being said, I also read ...

Re: Premolar extractions (how did your face change)
I had 4 premolars extracted with orthodontics when I was a child. Now as an adult I am having orthodontics again to treat TMJ (jaw joint) dysfunction. I feel sure that the extractions I had as a child had a negative affect on my facial appearance, but it's the damaging affect that they had on my TMJ...

Re: My horror story - need support!
I am currently having a similar type of orthodontics as you had, also to treat my TMJ dysfunction. I previously had orthodontics as a child with the extraction of 4 premolars, and a few years later developed TMJ dysfunction. I have had my upper arch expanded with an ALF appliance, but I won't be hav...

Re: What is a "proper bite"?
I've been in elastics for the past 2 months, and I think they're working pretty quickly in straightening out my bite. I started treatment with a huge 6mm overjet, and I'm not accustomed to my upper front teeth touching anything, but now without elastics, they're actuslly banging into my lowers. Eve...

Re: Jaw out of alignment caused by braces?
Hi, I am currently having orthodontics to treat TMJ dysfunction as I have displaced discs. I had orthodontics when I was a child, and 4 years afterwards I started to get TMJ clicking every time I open my mouth, which is due to the displaced discs. I am now 39, and having orthodontics again to help c...

Re: Does the arch get narrower when closing an extraction ga
It's possible that it can result in narrowing the arch. I had 4 premolars removed with orthodontics as a child, and later developed TMJ problems. I am now having my upper arch widened with orthodontics to help my TMJ.

Re: Metal Poisoning from braces???
Okay, I don't want to be a worry-monger, but I can't tell if my ongoing headaches and sore throat and insomnia are just part of the normal breaking-in period for braces or something else. I did however come across a very chilling discussion thread chronicling various cases of metal poisoning from b...

Re: braces causing tmj?
I had orthodontics as a child, and 4 years later I started to get clicking in one of my TMJs when opening my mouth. The clicking is due to a displaced disc within the joint. It is quite likely that the orthodontics contributed to my TMJ dysfunction. I am now having orthodontics done again to help co...

Re: I got TMJ-like symptoms from neck and shoulder pain!
I have TMJ dysfunction, shoulder and neck pain has been one of my many symptoms. My TMJ dysfunction developed 4 years after I had orthodontics done when I was a child. I am now having orthodontics again to help correct my TMJ dysfunction. It is believed that the orthodontics I had as a child has cau...

Re: Expansion or Extraction?
Extractions with Orthodontics can lead to dysfunction of the jaw joint if the orthodontist is not taking the function of the joint into consideration. Arch expansion can be achieved in adults using an ALF appliance, which is used by Functional Orthodontists. Functional Orthodontists are also taking ...
