Adjustment - 4/24/07

I had my adjustment appt. today. Yesterday a bracket became unglued while I was eating. I called my orthodontist's office after it happened yesterday to tell them about the loose bracket and also told them I had an appt. today. I didn't want to throw off their schedule with them having to place a ne...

Hi GG , Just curious, did the 18 months include the time in the expander? When my orthodontist gave me the estimated treatment time of 16-20 months, it included the time in the expander. I really think my treatment time will be more than 20 months but it doesn't matter to me. My goal is to have my t...

I don't see any problem with asking where your prior dentist has gone - I would ask. I just find it strange that their office did not send letters to the patients informing them of this change.

Hi Mike , I agree with Denise , the first couple weeks you will hear the same questions - why, how long, etc. It's human for people to ask questions when they see something different. After a couple weeks, people get use to it and it's no big deal. If you are comfortable with getting braces (as in f...

Hi GG , I had a Quad-Helix expander for 4 months before getting my upper braces, then got my lower braces placed 4 months after my upper braces and continued to wear the Quad-Helix expander for 1 year total. I wouldn't have minded if the expander had to stay on for the duration of my ortho treatment...

I do have to admit that every now and then I am still self-conscious about my braces, but I have never regretted my decision to proceed with ortho treatment. I really don't mind having braces, in fact, I think my braces will be on longer than my orthodontist estimated and don't mind a bit. I think m...

I had the same problem when I first had my expander placed. I found talking slower really helped my speech. For the sore tongue, use the warm saltwater rinses several times a day - that really helped me. Also, initially when my tongue was very sore, even my orthodontist knew that I was in alot of di...

Hi metalchic , I went through the same thing as you. This happened to me even though I had 2-1/2 months to make a decision. My appt. after getting the photos, molds & X-rays done, which included another consultation to go over the records, was to get an impression for my upper expander (this was...

My orthodontist said it was my decision if I wanted to get lower braces. My teeth were well aligned but not perfect. Because I was already getting braces on my upper teeth, I knew I wanted my teeth to look the best that they can so it was an easy decision for me. The cost of getting the lower braces...

4/16/07 - Archwire came off of bracket

I had an appt. today because last Friday, 4/13/07, the lower archwire came off of the bracket on my right molar band. I was eating a cracker and it got caught under the wire and it must have loosened it from the bracket on the band. I probably would have never known if I didn't feel the loose wire w...

Hi Ashley , I am so sorry to hear that you had so many problems with the Quad-Helix expander. You did the best thing, you called your orthodontist. I am so glad he got you in so quickly :D . I bet just being able to get an appt. the same day was a big relief for you. I'm glad there was an alternativ...

I would suggest you call your ortho on Monday. I'm glad it isn't painful.

Good luck.

I am always so thankful to have the great orthodontists that I have (two orthos in my office). Neither of them are ever too busy to answer a question or discuss any concern. All of the support staff are just as kind and caring also. This has made my ortho treatment a pleasure. You need to have a pri...

I agree with all of the replies to your post. Since the beginning of my ortho treatment, I have pretty much eaten whatever I wanted. The only thing I have stayed away from is very sticky candy and real hard items. I do cut my food into smaller pieces. I've just used my intuition when I place somethi...

I went to 4 consultations - they were all free. I called one other office and they charged a fee so I didn't make an appt. with them. Keep making consultaion appts. until you find the one you feel most comfortable with. Also ask family/friends of people that you really trust if they can refer you to...
