Hi, Remedios, I have all four wisdom teeth, and my ortho told the technician to be sure that the mold for the Essix retainer covered the wisdom teeth. My retainer does cover almost to the very back edge--but not quite. I suspect that might have been to avoid a gagging response. I will be keeping my ...

Never had extractions; even have all my wisdom teeth. My ortho mentioned that 2% of adults still have all 4 wisdom teeth. I was surprised to hear that.

I ate popcorn today for the first time since Brace Day 14 months ago. Then I saw this thread. Can't decide whether to take it as a friendly warning from the Tooth Fairy or not.

a movie just isn't the same without hot popcorn and a Coke.

The imported beers at our neighborhood cinema make up for popcorn, for me. Grocery bakeries also have nice fruit mini-pastries. They're quieter than popcorn, too, with no tattletale aroma.

Since I was braced just over a year ago, I've felt surprised once or twice at the tightness of a new wire. For some minutes I expected to feel pain, but then the tight feeling seemed to vanish. I would guess that my daily aspirin regimen (81 mg) would be a factor, by "preempting" the pain.

Nancy51's Story

More than a year has passed since bracing day, and I have only now begun a journal! I figured there was always time. The closer that I come to the end, the more I wish I’d spent more time thinking about it and enjoying it. Now I’ll have to use my appointment cards, old work calendar pages, and m...

I don't imagine that these shows counsel the participants/patients about the long-term implications of this quick fix. And that annoys me. But what really boggles my mind is that I am left wondering if the cosmetic dentists are up front about it either. I am sure there are some great ones out there...

Advice ?! Does this make sense ? Help ! Hi, Amy, I, too, was referred to an excellent orthodontist by an excellent dentist. This circumstance alone is I think sufficient reason to follow their advice. My slight overbite and minimal crowding were acceptable to me, but I had already managed to chip a...

I'm still recovering from the unpleasant process of dumping a psychotic--I suspect his two ex-wives would concur with this description--ex-boyfriend, so that my dating life is refreshingly on hold. Still, from the curiously elevated friendliness of strangers, I get the feeling that being braced coul...

I've dropped almost 25 lbs in 10 months. I call it the "braces diet", and my dieting colleagues have laughingly considered getting braces. Some loose skirts have actually slipped off, which I alone do not find amusing. Hate to invest in too many new things, though, in anticipation ...

I have been teased and ridiculed so many times by people who felt compelled to let me know just how bad my teeth are... A couple week ago, one of my clients daughters looked at me in awe and said, "Where did you get that mouth jewlery!?!?!?" I said that I got it from someone called an ort...

Time to listen to my concerns Fortunately, my treatment is pretty straightforward, and I can always dash off a question in an email. The staff are quick to reply. My ortho told me today to repeat an exercise 6 times as many cycles as I could throughout the day. I'm to hold the tip of my tongue quite still against the hard palate while swallowing. I found this impossible to do until I found instructions on the web suggesting also pulling/sucking the tongue bac...

According to some of the "youngsters" on my team, 30 is just really old, full stop. In another context, my generation logically knew that we'd pay for that "Don't trust anyone over 30" slogan, but emotionally we loved it. Now I figure it's time to pay the price, so that I don't ...
