I generally use soapy water. Had my 6 month visit today. Ortho said I had been doing fine with retainers, and she said soapy water was fine.

I think baking soda should be fine, washing up liquid works too. I think the two no go's are hot water + toothpaste. Both wear the retainer down.

My teeth weren't totally amazingly perfect at the end either, but I too am happy with the results that I got and your teeth look amazing. Well done and congrats

Powerchains right the 1st adjustment right until the end.

1. Mold was taken after being debanded. Retainers were given to me 2 days later. (Debanded on 23rd April, Retainers on 25th.)

2. Only nightwear at the moment, with a review in 6 months time to see how things are going.

I have Essix retainers, and they are quite uncomfortable but I can tell I am slowly getting used to them. (Debanded 22nd, Retainers on the 25th so its only been a few days)

Perhaps give it a little longer, and tell your ortho how you are feeling about it.

I never used to eat with my elastics in, took them out to eat, brushed my teeth and replaced with new ones.

The two packs I was given lasted the 6 weeks between my last adjustment and the brace removal.

New set of powerchains on both top & bottom. Elastic bands for the last 6 weeks of my braces.

Due to be metal free in a weeks time, just out of curiousity, I have been told retainers hurt a little for the first few days you wear them? Is this true?

Same here. Same wire was used for 5 months. Only then did they move onto a thicker wire. After a month or so in the thicker wire, it's been powerchains ever since.

As for staining, with my personal experience, darker and more bolder colours didnt stain at all. Whereas light ones did. For the first couple of months, I chose light colours (light blue etc) and they would stain. I then moved onto dark and bold colours (dark blue etc) and didnt stain at all. I'm a ...

6 weeks mostly for me. Sometimes has been longer, 7 weeks at most, and shorter, 4 weeks at most, due to the amount of appointments they had.

Just been given them by my ortho today, along with a debanding date (23rd april providing everything goes well!). Question is how bad could things go wrong if you dont wear the elastics enough?
