Do you have metal or ceramic brackets? Sometime ceramic brackets will come off easier than metal brackets. In my case I has a ceramic bracket come off twice in the first few weeks and my ortho replaced it with a metal band that couldn't come off.

It's ok to cut things into really small bites--that helped me a lot eat things like pizza and steak early on into braces.

The best thing about starting at 19 is that you don't spend the next twenty years thinking about whether or not you should (like I did). Congrats on moving forward. You may run into questions in the coming months that can be answered here so use this resource.

The worst part of sanding the glue off is the burning smell but it goes away quickly. The benefits of straight teeth greatly outweigh any discomfort from removing the brackets.

The alternative sounds worse than the Herbst--I hope it does its job so you don't have to go through surgery and braces again.
