It goes away. It's just a reaction to all the new stuff in his mouth. Just give it a few days, and it goes away.

What procedure(s) does your surgeon have planned? If you are having a Lefort 1, you may get some improvement in the cheekbone area. Also, once your lower jaw is moved back, the middle of your face will naturally look more prominent. Another option is to have some bone grafts put in your cheeks durin...

The type of braces (Damon or otherwise) does not affect the final outcome. I would be interested, however, to ask the orthodontist if the extraction of four teeth will have any affect on her appearance (will it flatten her face). You may also want to get one more consultation. If you have two contra...

You may want to get a consultation with an oral surgeon and see what's involved in the surgery, because you may not need to be wired shut for 6 weeks (or at all). I had surgery for an underbite, not overbite, so I can't really offer any personal advice, but I do know a number of people on this forum...

Here is a website with a picture of it (not very big, but the best I could find). If you scroll down to where it says "Palatal Expansion - Removable" you will see it.

Is the purpose of the device to expand her upper jaw? When I was a kid, I had an expander that was removable. It was plastic, and kind of bulky, but had nothing sharp or metal except for the little hooks that attach it to the molars. I was allowed to remove it for eating. It looks a bit like a Hawle...

You will be functional after a week, but you likely won't have your normal energy levels back for quite some time. Most people take about two weeks off work, but some take longer. It might be a good idea to have someone available on a sort of "stand-by" basis for one more week, so that you...

It's kind of hard to say, because it varies from one person to another. I was in a bit of pain, and really dizzy/weak. I couldn't sit up or get out of bed until the next day. I wasn't too disoriented. No nausea or sore throat, but dry mouth and I was not allowed to have water. You will probably have...

I would give it a bit more time. It has only been 5 days, and he still has a lot of swelling. My face kept undergoing changes for months afterwards.

No, I have not been to a periodontist. I am finished treatment and in retention. My ortho told me, basically there is nothing to be done. Gum grafts will not help this situation. I asked my dentist about the exposed root, and he said "brush with Sensodyne". This worked for a while, but rec...

Well, I didn't have SARPE but I had a Lefort 3-piece, and I have no gum problems at all on the upper teeth. All the problems are on the lowers. I have an exposed root that still hurts, despite the fact that I brush with Sensodyne, which costs twice as much as regular toothpaste. I also have black tr...

There's not a whole lot you can do besides what you're already doing... spacers are truly a pain! (Literally!) Keep taking those painkillers, and offer encouragement. Something cold, like sucking on ice chips or ice cream might also help. It should get better in a few days, a week at most.

Yup, I would say that's about right. I had jaw surgery in BC and it was $7000 for both jaws, so I'm guessing lower jaw only would be around half of that. I would explore both options, to find out which would give you better results. The jaw surgery might give you better long-term health and stabilit...

I had jaw surgery, and because my bite is very stable now, my ortho said I will not need lifetime retainers, but I will still be wearing them for two years post-braces. Although I do trust my ortho, I am very nervous about my teeth shifting! I guess it's because I have been through so much to get my...
