Re: Deep bite (not overjet) relapse prevention

Get a night guard made by your dentist. My dentist, who has a deep bite, recommended a night guard for me because I was left with a deep bite after my braces treatment. (She has worn her night guard for years with success.) An orthodontist she consulted with on my behalf said that Essix retainers ca...

Less tongue space and speech problems after braces

Hello, Has anyone experienced speech problems AFTER de-banding because of less tongue space? My lower anterior teeth were pulled back and positioned at an angle that tips them inward towards the tongue. My tongue has much less space now and I have an airy “s” and “t” sound when I speak. I’m wonderin...

Recent deband and tooth shifted, can Hawley correct this?

I was debraced almost 8 weeks ago and had upper & lower Essix retainers before my Hawleys came in. After 2 weeks of exclusively wearing my Hawleys my upper right canine has moved slightly and shifted outward. One of my many goals with braces was to correct that exact tooth because it was stickin...

Re: Hawley wire pressing on gum line

Thanks for your reply. I wore it for one night and my teeth were so achy the next morning and felt like they were pushed inward by the metal bar. An appointment for an adjustment is in order.

Cheers!

Hawley wire pressing on gum line

Hi all, Are Hawley wires supposed to touch the gum line or rest just barely touching it? My upper Hawley has a semi-detached curved wire (in an upside down C shape) above the molars that press firmly into the gum line. I already have recession on those molars (prior to braces) and I’m wondering if t...

Re: Treatment and resultant lisp?

I hear you. It IS so unnatural and I have to be conscious of the way I speak but it's the only thing so far that has helped. I hope all goes well at your next appointment and that this resolves itself. And if you find any ways to minimize your dreaded lisp please share!

[quote=assertives post_id=507338 time=1555465427 user_id=30576] I get that we are our own advocate and drivers of our own treatment to some extent, but this is also what we are paying our orthos, to give us advice and their expert opinions. I guess I would have recommended to stick to what you wante...

Re: Teeth mobility, ortho wants to deband :(

[quote=cbraces678 post_id=507334 time=1555444525 user_id=32123] Unfortunately, I can’t answer your question, but if you don’t mind I wanted to ask if you were advised extractions specifically because of your gum thinness? I also have thin gums. I had 2 consults - 1 advised for extractions and 1 was ...

Re: Treatment and resultant lisp?

I too have developed a lisp during treatment. I notice that the lisp is more pronounced in the morning but once I start talking it becomes more airy sounding. I've found that drinking water throughout the day seems to help (a dry mouth can be the culprit), as does stretching my lips to either side w...

Teeth mobility, ortho wants to deband :(

Hi all, I’m new here but have used this valuable forum as my go-to for a while now. I’ve been braced on the lowers for 2 years, uppers for 1.5 years, 4 second premolar exo’s (no regrets AT ALL since I have very thin gingival tissue and already have recession on the lower anteriors due to flaring dur...
