of course i’m not an orthodontist but as far as i know elastics can’t move the actual jaw but after extractions (maybe sometimes an expander) it can move the teeth back which may give the appearance of a straighter profile. This is usually most helpful for people whose mouth protrude outward.

if it’s just aesthetic, maybe you could tell her you’d like to move forward with treatment, or ask her when she’ll be done with this in particular.

yeah they move and straighten pretty quickly but closing the gaps and fixing the bite takes time

did she give you an estimate of when you can get them iff?

i’ve tried eating with elastics and you can do it with some food but sometimes it would snap and i’d swallow it... so i think it’s best to take them out

i’ve never heard of this but if you google it some research does come up... My ortho has never said anything about it personally, i don’t know if it really has a significant impact.

i have bit of bimax protrusion and the first time i had braces the ortho went the non extraction route and just straightened my teeth which actually made the protrusion worse, my teeth flared out way more than i remember it doing before and on top of that my teeth seemed to become crooked very fast,...

got my first braces at 18 and got them off at 19. turned out to be a bit of a hack job and the ortho didn’t tailor my treatment to my needs. now i’m going to a real ortho at 21 and I probably won’t get them off for another year and a half.

I remember the first time i had braces elastics were probably the most painful thing about it. now i have braces again with extractions and i’m not looking forward to the pain of the heavy duty ones :l

it’s been around 6 months since i had extractions/braces put on (my second time having braces) and i haven’t even gotten elastics yet. do you have any new pictures of your side profile/face? it looks like the protrusion went down a lot in your other photos i’d love to see the difference in your face...
