Sorry it's taken me so long to reply. I don't come here as often as I used to! Yeah only 12hrs a day.. It was 24/7 for the 1st 3mths though. As far as the sport thing goes - i'm not sure. I'd suggest checking with ur ortho to be on the safe side. I play sport too but have a molded mouthguard that I ...

Haven't heard of that one sorry.
My Hawley has plastic over the top of the wire on the front though (it's kinda all moulded to my teeth)...
Never heard of the wire at the back though.

I have the opposite to TeenQueen; a Hawley on the top and an essix for the bottom (over the top of a bonded retainer). My speech is fine. I do notice a difference but when I ask other people they say I sound normal so it mustn't be too bad. I never had gagging or anything. It did take a bit of getti...

I wear an essix retainer over the top of my bonded one also. I'm only supposed to wear it one night a week though... and it really doesn't bother me. As Kevin says.. the bonded retainer probably only keeps some of your teeth in place (for me it's the front 6). I wouldn't risk undoing all the work th...

hmm.. kind of looks like i'm in the minority here. My retainer was in my mouth 24/7!!!!! Of course I took it out to eat ... but then it would go straight back in. I went back to the ortho after the 1st month of retainer wear and now only have to wear it 12hrs a day. I always make sure I reach the li...

My front tooth was a real dark colour. I'd had root canal on it because I fainted on concrete years ago and knocked half of it out. The dentist injected bleach/peroxide into the back of it and replaced the filling. After 3 (relatively pain free) trips all looks as good as new! He shaped the bottom a...

That's great news. Speech always seems to be a main concern of retainer wearers. I can tell my speech is different, but when I ask people they say I sound normal... so it must just be a slight difference.
Glad to hear all is going well though - keep enjoying ur new smile

I really like the new limited edition Extra 'Blueberry' flavour! It's just like Grape HubbaBubba, but better for your teeth
Yeah - I've got to agree with you there.
Only problem is you pay about the same amount for a pack of those as you do for the normal 3 pack of extra!

Congratulations - that's a beautiful result.. you must be so pleased!
Just one quick question about your retainer. Does it just have the wire bit at the front, or some clear plastic over the top of the wire?
From the picture it looks like mine (with the clear plastic), but it's hard tell.

Hey Kirst1583 , I can't believe it's been over a month since your debanding! How time flies, huh, how's it going being a naked tooth? Yeah tell me about it.. I can't believe it's been a mth either! Things are going fantastic. I'm still not used to it though... they are so smooth!!!!! I also think m...

Thanks for the quick reply.
That's weird then.. I wonder why after only a month i'm only meant to wear it 12 hrs a day.
This whole processing can get kinda confusing. hmm.....

Mine is visible but actually doesn't look much different to when I had braces because it has a clear part over the metal wire on front...
Now that I don't have my retainer in all the time i'm starting to get people noticing my braces are off!

Retainer Advice

Hi Dr Genecov (and everyone else). I got my braces off just over a month ago. I've worn my upper Hawley retainer ever since and have now been told for the next 3 months at least I only have to make sure it's in 12 hrs a day. I've done that the past 2 days but it's real tight when I put it back in (j...
