Re: Why is my palate always in incredible pain following Sarpe?
I was googling palate in pain after sarpe surgery and this was the 2nd hit! haha, thanks google that's very helpful, redirect me back to my own problems lol. I'm kind of a longwinded talker, I apologize. It's been an interesting year. The pain is just the same, worse at times. I used to wear my reta...

Re: Results vs Risks vs Rewards
It may be true that someone unhappy with their results is more likely to post about it here than someone who is happy with theirs. But that doesn't discredit them. Jaw surgery is a major surgery with known setbacks. The number of people complaining about is enough to tell you that the risks are not ...

Re: expanding palate 8mm without surgery possible?
Is there an expansion device which has the option to only push the front of your mouth, and not push the sides? I previously had a sarpe but there is over-expansion on one side. My bite relapsed a bit shortly after my braces came off, so I'm wondering if someone knows of an expansion device which on...

Re: Unsure on what to do regarding jaw surgery, braces, TMJ
I never had TMJ until after jaw surgery. There's definitely a risk it will make it worse.

Oral Surgery - Tell us your results.
I think it would be a very good idea if everyone who gets Orthognathic Surgery gives a brief summary of their results. The goal is to have a more accurate understanding of how many people are happy with their results vs how many are not. And to provide an easy way to find someone who had the same is...

....just didn’t want to share that with a potential patient/customer lest the patient become wary and seek out another surgeon. Yes I edit quotes to snip out just the words I want :p "Lest the patient become wary and seek out another surgeon". personally, I'd feel much more comfortable wi...

Re: Upper jaw surgery or both?
You know, no one has a perfectly symmetrical face. Well, almost no one (curse you lucky beauties who will never find themselves on this website). Hollywood, YouTube, commercials, they all make it seem like we have a worse image than we actually have. I just finished watching a t.v. series and on scr...

Re: Permanent Numbness
Another acquaintance of mine has lost all feeling in her lower jaw, 6 years post-op. When I brought it up with her surgeon, he went "Huh, yeah, that was odd," and shrugged. This post perpetuates my belief that some oral surgeons are very dumb people who are not willing to think critically...

Re: SARPE Surgery
Honestly i'm not exactly sure how big it was, I didn't measure it and there was no mention from the surgeon or ortho about how big the gap was supposed to be. But i'd guess it to be around 5-7mm at it's widest.

Re: Palate Expander or Sarpe?
Ask the orthodontist what kind of expander he's using the next time you see him. An objective way to determine the viability of this method is simply x-rays of previous patients who have used the expander. With an xray you would see if it's just the teeth that moved or if the bone moved some. And by...

Re: SARPE Surgery
@Metalmouth1987: I hope too you find positive results at the end. Just curious for anyone who has had this surgery: How long did your orthodontist wait after surgery until putting the braces on? My orthodontist only waited a few weeks. He put on a power chain at the same time and the gap was closed ...

Re: SARPE Surgery
Hi rfxob. Sorry to keep writing so much, but I thought I should add a bit more. Have read over this abstract. https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/22516838 That's a study I saw referenced in some orthognathic surgery book. I didn't have any problems with the surgery, no infections or anything like th...

Re: 1.5 years post-op and devastated after last visit to surgeon
Wondering if Smurfy comes on here and How she is doing now ? This is an old post but my issue sounds a lot like hers with lower lip? On top of anything else someone might suggest, I'd recommend taking a fish oil capsule daily, and now and then have a 15-30min warm bath and just let your head sit al...

Re: SARPE Surgery
Okay so it's been quite sometime since I contributed to a message board (96? 97?), and I'm not sure I am doing it correctly. I really appreciate this forum so far, great info and guidance. I am trying to decide if SARPE is right for me. I've been a mouth-breather, especially when sleeping, from way...
