Re: TMJ pain getting worse can’t chew on one side

Why is the orthodontist the one deciding whether you could get surgery or not? In my case, my maxillofacial surgeon basically gave my ortho a list of things that had to be done before the surgery, and the ortho just followed the instructions. I think you should inform the surgeon who would be perfor...

Re: What happens when ortho becomes out-of-network while treatment is in progress?

Hey There- I've not had any experience having to fight it out with dental; it's usually medical side that I've had to jump through the hoops. Depending on how much is the remaining balance; you might want to consider a formal appeal. Your dental insurance should have a guide which tells you all of ...

What happens when ortho becomes out-of-network while treatment is in progress?

I started my orthodontic treatment way back in June 2017. Back then my orthodontist was an in-network provider for my dental insurance. At the start of treatment, I paid my copay of $2,450.00. That's the total of the portion I was responsible for. The insurance company, on the other hand, would pay ...

Re: Let's get real -- How important is flossing with braces?

When I started wearing braces, I would brush, floss, and Waterpik everyday. But it got so time consuming that I decided to just alternate between flossing and using the Waterpik after brushing at night. After a few months, I decided to just use the Waterpik every night. I think the Waterpik does a g...

Re: Advice on Switching Insurance (getting off employer-sponsored)

Also, my surgeon told me to make sure the plan does not exclude orthognathic surgery, but can I mention that in a call with someone or would it be considered pre-existing and denied at that point? Because of the Affordable Care Act (Obamacare), you can no longer be denied coverage due to a pre-exis...

Re: Reputable Jaw Surgeon Recommendations? (Other than Arnett/Gunson)

To Ravenclaw: which SoCal Kaiser Doctor did you choose? My daughter just had her jaw surgery at Kaiser Anaheim last week. I met with Gabriella Tehrany at Kaiser Sunset. I can't recommend her personally yet because I haven't had my surgery, but she has a number of positive mentions on this forum and...

I'm very glad to hear this. She's the one performing my surgery next year.

Re: 8 molar bands and 4 eyelets?

I have 8 molar bands. My ortho doesn't like using them, but my maxillofacial surgeon requested them. I felt sorry for the assistant who had to place them. She missed almost all of her lunch break because the bands took quite a long time to place. My surgeon prefers that molar bands be placed on the ...

Re: Coil springs - tips?

I have a coil spring added to my braces to make space for a retroclined lower central incisor. I guess I'm quite lucky because the coil spring between my lower right lateral incisor and lower left central incisor doesn't bother me at all. Food usually gets stuck in that area, so it's more difficult...

Re: Getting Braces Tomorrow

I hope everything went well for you and that you are now adjusting easily to life with braces. I think you're pretty well-prepared already, but I second what EmilyTravels said. Get some floss and floss threaders. It's important to floss to get rid of the stuff that the Waterpik might have missed.

Re: Reputable Jaw Surgeon Recommendations? (Other than Arnett/Gunson)

From what I've gathered, most of the negative reviews of Felice O'Ryan that you would find online were written by one person across a wide variety of review sites, so most of those negative reviews are actually discussing just one person's case. Most of the reviews I've read about her on this site w...

Re: The safety/relapse rate of maxillary down-grafting?

I'm sorry to hear about what happened to you. Have you by any chance consulted with a different maxillofacial surgeon? Since your surgeon has already performed two less than ideal surgeries on you, it might be prudent to have other surgeons look at the problem.

Re: clear or metal?

I have metal. There was a time when I thought about getting clear, but I didn't think the extra cost was worth it. When I got them on, I realized they didn't really bother me as much as I thought they would. After a few days, their appearance stopped bothering me, and I stopped caring what other peo...
