Re: "Why did you get BRACES?"
Most people have been supportive (or even impressed) that I got braces at 63 years of age. Only two have said, "you didn't need them" or have been outwardly critical of my decision. My money, my mouth... and lots of us have issues like terrible bite issues and TMJ, some things show, but ot...

TADS and open bite correction experiences
Hello, I am six months into treatment with damon braces (love them) and the difference in my teeth is pretty stunning - to me, anyway. For the first time in my life, my two front teeth both face forward. I do have a significant open bite, however... so my ortho is going to put in four TADS next mont...

Re: Help! Flossing is a disaster!!
I don't think you're doing anything wrong. Everyone is different... I went to my regular dentist yesterday for a cleaning, not that I needed much because I am so crazy clean-freak about my braces, LOL~ My hygenist and I had a talk about floss vs. waterpik. She uses nothing but a waterpik. I told her...

Re: Cost of TAD's?
this topic is very old. I just got told I need two TADS. I had no idea what they were talking about so I ran home to look it up. It doesn't sound too bad. I think I have to have two just in the upper jaw. My ortho is so cool, he's doing it for nothing, because he said it isn't a big deal - but he ha...

Re: Help! Flossing is a disaster!!
the best thing I have found is Oral B SuperFloss. I can't live without it! The end of the floss string has a stiff end, and I can get it through even the tightest gaps... the middle of the floss is kind of fluffy, so when you develop more space (and you will), it still is very effective. I have foun...

Re: First day of braces. Advice
Just my experience: my brackets are very nicely bonded, with very little extra cement/bonding agent showing. I did pop two lower brackets off within two hours of getting them put on (2.5 hours in the chair). Had to go back to the office and make them fix the two that popped off - bilaterally, lower ...

Re: Will my teeth flare out?
I got the same information, exactly, Grapefruit. I refused to allow four healthy teeth to be yanked out. My general dentist, who I very much trust, said "don't have anything extracted." He also was concerned that it was too extreme and that I would have a bad result in terms of profile. Wh...

Re: Hooks!
thanks, Jass! Did you all notice a lot of change or movement that was caused by the elastics? I have heard it makes stuff happen!

Re: Oldie but (hopefully) goodie? Braces at 63
Hi, Sandy!! Good for you, you won't be sorry, I promise. I put a LOT of thought into having treatment and when I took the plunge, I was pretty nervous. I wasn't very well informed about the process -- it's like everyone assumed I knew what was coming and that I would expect certain things. Nope. I f...

Re: Hooks!
I am five months in (or will be by my appointment end of this month) and am starting elastics then. Not sure I am thrilled about this! But I hear from most people that it really gets things moving. My treatment plan is what my ortho calls a "slow burn" :D so while i see a lot of movement, ...

Hey everyone! Just coming by to see how things are going with us mature brace people. I am now four months into treatment, on my second wire. I can see changes in my incisors - left one was almost sideways, and now is more facing front. I still have a crazy open bite, but get elastics in January 201...

Re: My 1st tightening
I am back! First actual change in my wires today, to a thicker one than I started with 3 months ago (first wire) I didn't catch the size they mentioned but it's considerably thicker than the first one which was so thin it hardly showed up at all. This one does! I bet I see some real movement now, so...

Re: My 1st tightening
Hi, no, but I have self-ligating brackets (Damon) so I don't have the bands on my brackets. I thought they would bump me up to a stronger arch wire, but they didn't. They talk in codes that I do not understand - something about the wire still being active. I am sure many of you have experience and g...

Hi, nice to have company in my age bracket (no pun intended). :) I did check to see if AARP pays for ortho treatment. LOL~ Congrats on being so close to the end of your treatment. Mine is just beginning... next appointment is Nov 21. The first check up at six weeks, they just said have a nice day an...
