Is it possible to get double jaw surgery to move both jaws back slightly to correct a Lefort 1 that moved the upper jaw too far forward? Is it in any way excusable or normal for there to be nothing written in the surgery notes as to how far the upper jaw was moved forward in a Lefort 1 procedure?

P.S. there were two pre-surgery memos that clearly indicated the estimated amount that the jaw would be moved forward.

I feel this may just be a slippery slope leading to more plastic surgeries. The problem is probably that your top jaw is overadvanced, and the most aesthetic solution would be to correct that.

Frankly, count your blessings. 'With upper jaw only surgery for an underbite, the results often seem to be less than aesthetically pleasing (nose widening, saggy cheeks, chimp face, and overly square jawline in females). If you look a little better, then you're lucky.

I think you look good, and I think if you start messing with things, you're gonna regret it. I don't find your sample guy all that attractive--especially not his nose.

Sarah, why don't you get a second opinion even if you have to pay out of pocket for it? It sounds like your doctors are giving you the runaround. FWIW, I think what they did to you is inexcusable, and nobody would expect or be pleased with being left with "milder" versions of the problems ...

Will your orthodontist fit you with retainers before you go? If not, then your bite will probably shift. You haven't said if your orthodontist gave you any specifics about his reasoning for keeping them on (such as wanting to fix more things)?? If he can't give you sufficient justification, then yes...

I have no knowledge of your surgeon but it sounds to me like he's being thoughtful so don't be hasty to switch. Some surgeon telling you he/she knows exactly how to "fix you" doesn't necessarily guarantee results you'll be happy with either. That said, you could get a second opinion.
