Re: I want them off!!
I'm also in the UK and I've maybe seen 3 or 4 other people with them here. They're always a nice conversation starter when you find a fellow sufferer! It's definitely not fun having braces, but you do get used to them. I've also basically lived life normally since getting them; being able to get thr...

Re: How long for IPR gaps to close?
Just to follow up on this, 7 weeks out from the IPR and all the gaps have closed save the middle one (lower jaw). Probably not much point in posting pictures as you can't really see the gaps in pictures. They were definitely visible in person if you looked hard (ahem, if I looked hard) but I doubt i...

Re: what's the cost of your braces?
1. Southern Sweden
2. 32000 SEK (about 2800 GBP at current exchange rates - but it was rather less when I started, pre-referendum result!).
3. Ceramic top, metal bottom
4. About 18 months. 6 down so far. We'll see!

How long for IPR gaps to close?
Hi all, I had IPR done on my lower front teeth about 4 weeks ago to make them less proclined. I've got regular metal braces on the bottom, and I'm now in a thick wire with powerchains, but as yet I haven't seen the gaps close at all. Up until now my teeth have shifted very quickly (I had some dents ...

Re: Professionals with braces: thoughts or concerns?
I'm in academia and talk a lot to people/will be giving presentations (when I'm not sat alone in the office hunched over my computer that is!) and I haven't decided if I'm going to forewarn everyone in advance, or just get them on and see who notices! I'm mostly worried that I'll look like a teenag...

Re: Archwire constantly popping out of my last molar bracket
I had this problem much more with thinner wires but I used to pop them back in with tweezers. Is that an option?

Re: Found out I've been taken advantage of by a dentist
I agree with take the money and run - is 25% of the cost really worth the hassle, when 75% would allow you to get on with your life and find someone competent?

Oh, and be careful what you wish for - some of the wire changes can be quite painful! The first wire is usually quite thin and bendy and subsequent ones may not be so pain free

It can also I think be very unpredictable, I have had points where things have moved unexpectedly quickly. If by the time of your next appointment you feel like not much is happening, you can always talk to your orthodontist about what the plan is and when in the treatment certain things may happen....

Re: Decisions Decisions
I had a similar choice (except for the Inman) and personally I went for ceramic brackets on top, metal on the bottom. It was cheaper, and I was told that it would probably give a better and quicker result (since I had quite a lot of vertical misalignment, as well as horizontal, and he said intrusion...

Re: dentist says i should get cleaning every 3 months
I'm finally getting mine cleaned next month after going for the first 6 months without - and I cannot WAIT. I am a religious brusher, waterpik user etc but I still find I get greyish plaque build up on my teeth (ironically I had the same problem on my lower recessed teeth, which is partly why I want...

Re: I don't like my braces
The first week I was so, so miserable and really hated my decision - my mouth hurt so much and I could barely eat anything. I'm quite a fussy eater anyway and I think having braces really screwed with that for the first couple of months. After the first week it stopped hurting and after the first tw...

Re: Professionals with braces: thoughts or concerns?
Sorry to bump an old thread - I recently had a job interview with my braces that I was really worried about (very crusty, formal institution and I look younger than I am anyway, so I was worried I wouldn't be taken seriously). I got offered the job, so it just goes to show that they needn't be an ob...

This is probably a really stupid question, but is the retention process the same for 6MS as for 'regular' braces?

Re: Dating with braces- should you tell your date beforehand?
I got braces really early into the relationship with my boyfriend and discussed it with him - fortunately he was totally fine with it, which helped me make the decision to do it. I think once you get used to them it becomes much less of an issue, in that you forget that they are something unusual, a...
