Just a quick question:
Does maxillary advancement result in CW auto-rotation of the mandible?
I know that a maxillary down-graft causes the CW auto-rotation of the mandible, but I'm not sure if the same mechanism occurs with advancement surgery. Thanks.

Re: Successful Downgrafts
Thanks for your reply PierreDeFermat. I'm a public patient, and here in Australia we are treated by the MaxFac team at our local area hospital. My surgeon heads that department, so he and I are bound in a relationship of necessity. However, I do believe that he is a very good functional surgeon, but...

Re: Over-impacted upper jaw?
Hi Zola, I am in the process of planning a maxillary advancement/down-graft surgery in June. I'm having my existing plates and screws removed in two weeks. Feel free to contact me if you would like to connect with someone in the same boat.

Just bumping this up again in the hope that anyone who has had a down-graft will comment.
I would really love to get some idea of just how unstable/dangerous they are. Thanks

Re: Plate removal
Hi snapdresser, I haven't had them removed yet, but will be soon. Weirdly I have recently had intermittent pain around my top left plate and screws. I can feel the actual screw through my gum tissue and the area there has started to become periodically irritated. My surgery was a year ago, so strang...

Successful Downgrafts
Just wondering if anyone on here could let me know if they had a successful down-graft please. I require a revision down-graft as my surgeon removed too much vertical excess and now I have -0 tooth-show and diminished mid-face length which looks truly awful. I am aware of the notorious instability o...

Re: Zero Tooth-Show ... Revision Maxilla Down-graft
Thanks for your message and sorry for the late reply. The reason I keep going back to him is that I'm a public patient. Also, I have so much history with him now, I feel like he knows the situation intimately. I'm scared that if I introduce a new surgeon to the situation it might get even worse. It'...

What are the risks of maxillary down-graft?
Hi guys, Sorry to post a second time on the same topic, but I'm really hoping to connect with anyone who has had a maxillary down-graft. My surgeon has acknowledged that he removed too much maxillary excess during my revision LeFort, but refuses to down-graft to rectify the mistake as he says it is ...

Re: The safety/relapse rate of maxillary down-grafting?
I would definitely consult with another surgeon if I could, but I simply cannot afford to pay another surgeon to revise. I need the surgeon who did this to fix it.
Is there anyone at all out there who has had a down-graft of the maxilla that may be able to comment

Re: The safety/relapse rate of maxillary down-grafting?
By the way, the "yes I do" above was in answer to your question "do you have pics". The complete lack of tooth-show is at rest. When I smile there is perhaps a mm or two but I suspect that is just because the braces are holding up the top lip a tiny fraction. When the braces come...

Re: Double Jaw Surgery Regret-Reversal?
Oh jawregret ... I completely feel for you as I am in almost EXACTLY the same situation as you are. I have spent the past 12 months begging my surgeon to AT LEAST down-graft my maxilla a few mm so that I have some tooth-show (I have none)! He insists that a down-graft of the maxilla is too risky (no...

Re: Reversing jaw surgery: has anyone ever heard of this?
Hello jawregret, I've been following your story and was just wondering how you are now? I am in the same situation as you and I really feel for you. I have been left with less than zero tooth-show and I am extremely depressed and struggling. I have asked my surgeon for a revision maxillary down-graf...

The safety/relapse rate of maxillary down-grafting?
Just a quick question if I may about the maxillary down-grafting procedure. My story is all here in past posts, but briefly I had a bi-max (which left me with a deviated septum, crooked nose to the left and a severe mid-line deviation to the left) two years ago. One year ago, I had a revision Lefort...

Zero Tooth-Show ... Revision Maxilla Down-graft
Hello. Some of you may recall my story from a year ago, but briefly ... I had a SARME in 2014, and Bi-Max in 2015 and a subsequent revision Lefort 1 in 2016! The Bi-max in 2015 left me with a severely crooked nose and a mid-line-shift almost one entire tooth-width to the left (think Tom Cruise). How...
