Re: Typical NHS Waiting Times - Almost 2 Years And Counting...

Hi there, if you're still reading these posts you might find my story useful? I had sarpe in Glasgow last March and have just been put on the waiting list for the whole double jaw op. I'm in Oban and also travel down to Glasgow to meet surgeons etc. It's been more than three years since I started th...

Re: June/July Surgery Buddies

Gruntled - I'm also NHS (i might be wrong in thinking you are too) and was given little or no support for my SARPE surgery. Im not blaming them, they are short of money! This forum was a lifeline for me when I felt isolated and knew nobody else who'd been through the procedure. I'll be re reading al...

Re: SARPE Surgery

Well guys I wish I still had my expander in. Remember how the ortho took mine out early because he said it was a bad fit, replacing it with a heavy TPA? Well the TPA has these metals arms that go behind the front teeth. There was a gap between the arms of about 2 mm, I could see it between the front...

Re: Any teachers on here have surgery?

High School Teacher in Scotland. Had SARPE in March and had to teach afterwards with a big metal bar in my mouth - the kids looked bemused at first but we're pretty forgiving. Most of them, there were a couple of exceptions :-+ I went back after 3 weeks but that was due to the Easter hols, I could'v...

Re: SARPE Surgery

Instacynthia - firstly let me reassure you, this isn't going to be as bad as you think! Our little minds go hey wire before surgery, I remember how nervous I was. There was no pain for me, just discomfort. The expander is by far the worst thing about the process. You will be swollen and tired so a w...

Re: SARPE Surgery

Hi Psa The TPA I have is very thick, goes in an arch across the back roof of my mouth and is banded to a couple of back molars (unlike the RPE which was banded to 4 teeth). I barely know it's there. It is quite a relief after the RPE but like you I had the dreaded thing taken out early and im pretty...

Re: SARPE Surgery

I'm 44, mother of 2 small children, wife to a messy forester, full time teacher of high school kids and right now I couldn't give a rat's arse what kind of braces they gave me as long as they do the job quickly. Sorry about my foul language - a pupil in my class threw scissors at another kid today b...

Re: June/July Surgery Buddies

Jaime, this is as bad as it will get. Funny how we all read the blogs but when it's our turn we just feel rubbish. I bet in 48 hrs you have your energy back and your face has started to look like it's normal self . :-** all of you going through surgery are amazing and coping brilliantly, hang in the...

Re: June/July Surgery Buddies

You look great in your video Jaime. Obviously swollen but not as bad as you could have been. Will be exciting to see your new face shape emerge from the swelling over the next days and weeks. You can already see the difference.

Re: June/July Surgery Buddies

Well done Jaime! Can hardly believe you felt up to posting straight after surgery. Get lots of rest and I hope hope your breathing problems ease off. The worst is over for you! Now you just have a few days of feeling grim and then home to your own bed. I'm excited for you! !!

Re: SARPE Surgery

Hi Sadoozie, my top braces haven't been activated yet and they put a spring between the front two to stop them closing up. Due to the bone still forming in my palate. In 3 weeks I think the ortho will start to close the gap which is about 5 mm at top and 3 at bottom of front teeth. Strange they have...

Re: SARPE Surgery

Hello guys! Just checking in. My SARPE was 25th March, expanded 10mm, expansion device removed early due to it being a poor fit and replaced with heavy TPA. Now braced but they're not activated (ortho waiting for definite bone formation) until July. Seem to have had a mm or two relapse and I think i...
