Re: chlorhexidine staining

Hi, This happened to me. I had orthognathic surgery, and of course the residents at the hospital discharged me on this mouthwash. I was told to finish the entire 2 bottles I was given (an RX for one, and the bottle from the hospital went home with me)!!!! That was like, 4-5 weeks of staining at leas...

Re: What were you told: Decreasing jaw elastic wear.

My ortho told me to decrease wear if I noticed my bite was over-correcting. She said go to 18 hr, then 12 if needed. I, too, get uncomfortable without the elastics, but haven't had any pain putting them back in. So far they always relieve pain (except when I'm getting used to stronger ones or whate...

Re: Best lig colours?

Here are a few things my ortho and his assistant told me. I paid for the ceramics on top so those are white. 1) The clear wire that some individuals use just doesn't seem to be as durable as the regular grey metal one. This was a bummer to me. The office prefers to use a regular metal grey wire, but...

Re: Why do orthos wait to put brackets on back molars??

My ortho was waiting to see if I really needed the back brackets or not. I had braces before, but I did not need to have my back molars bracketed that time. This time I am in ortho due to jaw surgery, and they have started to turn a bit. So the brackets went on. I was also told that they didn't go o...

Re: What were you told: Decreasing jaw elastic wear.

Ok, to clarify - I'm interested to know if anyone here ever been told to wear their elastics half time? And if so, was it more uncomfortable for them?

This is my second go around with orthodontics, and I never had this issue before. It was either wear bands or don't wear them.

Re: Keeping my teeth clean

Well I have had braces for about a month now. I am worried that I am not keeping my teeth as clean as they should be. Can anyone give me advise on if a Sonicare tooth brush might be better then a regular toothbrush? So far I brush my teeth, then I use a water flosser, then I rinse with mouth wash. ...

What were you told: Decreasing jaw elastic wear.

OK, this is probably not the question you think it is. I had a BSSO, Lefort 1 and TMJ arthroplasty in April 2014. I've had a pretty bad road after the surgery, with the development of trigeminal neuralgia and also Bell's Palsy. I do still struggle frequently with TN, mostly on my right side. I've be...

Re: My teeth are slanted! What is wrong?!

Midline is better - was at a point it was pretty much perfect, but then continued to change and is now off. I noticed the change from a good position to a bad position in as little as two weeks before an ortho appointment. I told my ortho and he said he wasn't worried about it but was impressed with...

Re: Dirty molars/teeth

Hi OP! The mouthwash you use is also called Peridex. Peridex can cause staining if used more than 2 weeks (my oral surgeon said 10 days). I had to use Peridex / Corsodyl after my orthognathic and TMJ dysfunction surgery. I was given bad, bad advice by the residents after my oral surgery at discharge...

My face! It hurts!

Anyone had lasting issues with pain in their face (any part)? I have had a tough go of it. I developed Bell's Palsy (one set of nerves) and then Trigeminal Neuralgia (a different set of nerves) on the right side of my face after my surgery (within the first two weeks). I was seriously stunned that I...

My teeth are slanted! What is wrong?!

OK, stupid question. I have orthognathic surgery a few months ago. My midlines were perfect! Actually, the only issue we had was closing the bite on the right side. Anyway, I've been super compliant with my elastics as I have found that I hurt when I am not complaint. Can you believe that it appears...

Re: Is it painful to have the thumbsucking crib removed?

Same thing happened to my son. They followed him up in the office a little sooner, but everything looks fine now. We are actually going back in two days to go and do our evaluation to see when he will need braces. I expect two phases with our poor guy, just because he thumb sucked for so long. I was...

Re: Phase I and Phase II Ortho Treatment

My daughter is currently completing phase 2 of braces. She had the first set placed at age 8. I feel that we avoided MAJOR extractions by doing phase 1 treatment. Also, seeing the before and after pictures of her teeth were just phenomenal. She had such overcrowding before. By the time we were finis...
