Re: When will the bones be stable enough for braces removal?

I was exactly the same. My bite was actually perfect after the surgery, but I ended up having to keep the braces on for about 4 months after just so my orthodontist was sure. It was annoying, but in the long run I'd rather have another 4 months than take them off early and have shifting happen. Good...

Re: Upper Jaw Surgery with Possible Genioplasty?

Update: I thought I'd come back and post some more photos and share my experience for those pre-surgery people who are browsing these message boards for information about jaw surgery (like I did!). When I was researching I found posts with pictures particularly helpful, because it's pretty hard to m...

Re: Possible for teeth to shift, even if retainer still fits

Yup went to see my ortho and like the commenter above, he trimmed away the last molar and half of the second last molar of my essex. He said that this would allow the teeth to naturally shift in to place. He seemed pretty confident in this so I didn't end up asking about the hawleys (also cause I ki...

Re: Possible for teeth to shift, even if retainer still fits

Thanks for the response, I'll ask about the Hawley's in my appointment on Thursday. Do you know if he made the Hawleys so that they were adjusting your teeth (by tightening the wires etc.), or was it just that once you were in Hawleys your molars naturally moved into place?

Possible for teeth to shift, even if retainer still fits?

I got my braces off a month ago (after upper jaw surgery for my underbite this june)and my orthodontist gave me an essix top retainer that I had to wear 24/7 except when eating. I followed his instructions and would say I've ended up wearing it around 20 hours a day, because obviously I don't pop it...

Re: Upper Jaw Surgery with Possible Genioplasty?

you don't think that because of the horizontal nature of the cut the genioplasty will make my chin even longer? I agree I could stand to lose some of the projection but I'm not sure how I feel about gaining length as a result

Upper Jaw Surgery with Possible Genioplasty?

Hey! So i'm scheduled for surgery in just under two weeks to have my upper jaw mover forward in order to correct my underbite. However, the surgeon has also said that if I want he can 'soften' my chin through a genioplasty, so now I'm trying to decide whether or not I want this done. Obviously as it...

Bone regrowth for jaw surgery after wisdom teeth removal?

just looking for some advice, or a second opinion :) I just got my wisdom teeth out, and am scheduled to have a jaw surgery sometime in the future (don't know yet if it will be upper or lower or a combination of the two, my surgeon won't know until my teeth are fully in position). The problem is, ev...
