Re: Did braces change your personality?
I don't think braces have fundamentally changed my personality. Before braces I was pretty confidant and outgoing, and with braces I am the same way. The only thing it has changed it how people treat me, because I now look so young. I get carded even more than I did before; even for R-rated movies. ...

Re: Hello All
Welcome, and lucky you on the free treatment! Mine's costing me about $3500, which I've learned is the low end here on this side of the pond. I'm 23 as well, and had my apprehensions about having braces at my age. Having a sweet, innocent baby face to begin with will do that to you. Getting carded.....

Re: Flossing and Brushing
That's a no. They can, however, keep you from needing dental procedures to fix cavities and decay after the braces come off, though. It also keeps your gums and teeth in good condition. And do you really need a reason to clean your teeth properly, other than the fact that having braces makes having ...

Re: Overbite vs overjet
I have a deep bite. I don't know the difference between overbite and overjet, but as for the pain... I had soreness for several weeks after the braces were initially put on. Granted, the soreness during week three was certainly not as bad as day one. Because I wear rubber bands 24/7 to pull my back ...

Re: New to braces what products do I need?
Colgate makes disclosing tablets called Disclotabs. At least in Australia they do. You should be able to get some from your orthodontist if you local pharmacy doesn't have them. I tried some last week and was suprised (and a little upset) to see that the dye got inside my cermic brackets and turned...

Re: Waterpik recommendation and thoughts please
I've been using the waterpik ultra for a week now and absolutely love it. I have found that I still need to floss as well, however. I'm still getting used to controlling the water flow because it can be a bit messy. But everytime I use it I get that 'fresh from the dentist clean' feel. Highly recom...

Re: Braces and Weight Watchers
I use to work in/with hospitals & loved the cafeteria soups.... and soft serve yogart. The workplace cafeteria I have access to serves mostly burgers & huge sandwiches-once again an issue since lunch is 30 minutes - 40 at most (hate being on the clock) & cutting/chewing/post lunch oral ...

Re: Braced at 24...Oh the floss we thread...
Thanks for your reply scully! So today I went in to have my permanent crowns done, they look nice. It was kind of painful, to be honest, but I made it through although my gum is still a little store from the three injections I had to get completely numb. I'm glad that's all over, now I'm just waiti...

Re: routine hygienist visit
It was my dentist that warned against polishing. I see nothing wrong with the scraping part once a year or even twice. She is very conservative and says it does put undue wear on the teeth, as does using very abrasive toothpaste... She said 6 months of wear, but that might have been an exaggeration ...

Re: Purposely Leaving Space
I don't see why there would be danger in leaving a slight space, but I'm not a dentist... I know that large spaces can cause shifting and the lack of support caused by large spaces can cause the teeth to splay out in some cases. But that usually only happens when someone is missing quite a few teeth...

Re: routine hygienist visit
I go for a cleaning every 3 months since my braces went on. So 4 times a year. 2 of those times is a checkup with the dentist. They don't remove anything, they just work around everything. You'll be AMAZED at the results. The hygienist said that no matter how well you think you clean with braces, y...

Re: routine hygienist visit
I'm not going to lie. I don't get my teeth cleaned very often, as it actually wears the enamel of the teeth, and I don't see a real reason to get it done if you brush/floss regularly. Getting your teeth "cleaned" is like 6 months of wear on your teeth all at once. I am absolutely neurotic ...

Re: OK--This was not the plan!
Hey Scully--I think we both lucked out with the spacers. You didn't have them and mine didn't hurt! What exactly is the "bite block"? Not much can hold us back from our chocolate!! :) I have a deep bite, so my top teeth would hit my brackets on the bottom if I didn't have a bite block. A ...

Re: those small gaps that keep appearing!
i really dont mind the appearance of the gaps, it's the annoyance of food being stuck in it all the time that is getting to me at the moment yeah, that IS annoying. Sometimes I go in the bathroom and blow air *sssssth* through the gaps to blast the particles out if I'm at a restaurant or something,...
