I am 26 and just got my braces on 11-21-11. I have 14-18 months of treatment. I am excited to be having them, but I am also trying to cope with the soreness and not being able to chew much. Any tips or advice on what you have done to make your first days with braces is helpful!

Colgate has a sensitive toothpaste that might be a little cheaper than Sensodyne. Could give the same results.

I hope that I will get use to my brackets later on during the treatment and not have to use it so much..

I do the angle top, front, then angle bottom routine and I brush in circles. That has been helping me during this first week with my braces.

Thought I was the only one that thought brushing 5-6 times a day was excessive. Rinsing in between has been helping me a lot too when I can't get to a toothbrush. My ortho gave me a sample of Colgate Sensitive Pro Relief the day I got my braces. It helps a lot with the sensitivity and I think I am going to continue using the brand throughout my treatment.

Carmex works wonders. If anyone out there is about to get their braces soon, apply a good amount of any lip balm before your appointment. Your mouth will be open for a while and your lips will become very dry.

I am 26 and just got braces this past Monday...upper and lower metal. I am still getting use to the soreness and pressure. My time of treatment is 14-18 months.
