Re: Can teeth crack in ortho?

Yes I was 3 quarters of the way through my treatment. You are so right about hard foods and the damage they cause. It really makes no sense from a health point of view, if the food isn't soft enough to be broken up by the strength of human finger tips then it really is not worth eating ... Of course...

Re: Can teeth crack in ortho?

i had the unfortunate experience of a back molar "disintegrating" due to the stress of two years of treatment, the molar already had stress fractures due to previous damage and it split in two when I woke up and yawned one morning! I had warning signs of trouble several months before, inte...

Re: 6 months smiles - progress and opinions?

They look great to me. They look nicely aligned and like they just need to be pulled back a little more to sit more flush against the bottom arches, which should not take a lot more time to achieve. Your smile will be killer! Your ortho is obviously very skilled.

Re: What's wrong with my front teeth?

I had the same problem before debanding that one front tooth became slightly 'dominant' over the other one, in my case it was a tooth they pulled forward to make my smile look more even. I have noticed that most people have a bit of unevenness to some extent or other as front teeth are never exactly...

Re: Vitamins during bracing...

I remember an article that you can help strengthen teeth by eating a minimum of one head of Romanian lettuce per day, and avoiding all types of sugar and sweeteners for two weeks. The Romanian lettuce can be juiced but is best in its natural state like a rabbit would eat. This helps to fortify the t...

Re: What have your down moments been and why? (caution: rant

Down points - 2 surgeries one under general anesthetic, crowns and fillings, 6 extractions, gum loss, over FIVE years in braces, loss of income and also the dissolving of some shallower friendships. Lack of travel and holidays. Honestly, the whole has been a lot more than I bargained for and if I'd ...

Re: How long did you have to wear elastics?

I've worn braces for five years and elastics for a little over three of them. Ive worn four different size elastics, in different configurations depending on if they were treating my over bite or cross bite. Am now elastic free and due for de-band next month! I still sometimes slip an elastic on one...

Re: 25 years old and just got old fashioned braces.

You'll be fine just brush at least 3 times a day, find a really GREAT lip balm and use some silicone wax (always keep the stuff handy).

They'll look much better as treatment progresses and you will be flashing em' a plenty... Remember braces are a status symbol - if you want them to be.

Re: Is it safe to assume that from a pain standpoint, the 1s

From my own experience the discomfort gets worse as the treatment progresses, which I thought like you it would be the other way around, as they add more elastics, thicker stronger wires and especially TAD'S which can tear into soft tissue (the scars from those are deep in me and will probably never...

Re: Do I need calcium supplements?

Agree about the blood test. My time getting braced also coincided in a time I became interested in getting my vitamin levels optimized and my tooth (and general) health to be as good as it could be. It makes sense, you are spending all this time and money perfecting one thing about your self and it ...

Re: Whitening and bonding after braces off, but before retai

1. Not wearing your retainer for a full week after being debraced sounds like a really, really bad idea to me. 2. It's possible, but you would most most likely have to pay extra cost because of new impressions needed, dentist and lab fee's etc. 3. It depends on your exceptions of whitening. Some pro...

Re: Midline off 3mm - born without one tooth

I had a similar problem. I am missing a premolar on one side and had a huge 5mm midline shift but after 5 years in braces now have an almost perfectly aligned midline! I say almost perfect because it's still looks a tiny bit off because the bite turbos and molar buildups have changed my bite again, ...

Re: symmetrical or asymmetrical extractions?

I had two premolars extracted from the one side only. I was naturally missing one premolar on the opposite side, so I still have five premolars and an odd number of teeth, but since I started with an odd number that is all the orthodontist had to work with. I had several consultations and all of the...

Re: really struggling, need honest feedback (pics included)

Jeeze, The things we have to put up with for a decent smile! :gavel: I am glad you were able to get your orthodontist to sit still for long enough to hear all of your concerns. Well, I guess your ortho could be more of a "end results" driven person, meaning he is less concerned about the r...

Re: Sore teeth after braces remove

I'm sure you are just going through a "settling" phase and the teeth eventually will re-adjust themselves. I am always amazed throughout treatment how the body learns to adjust itself to pain and this new configuration and heal itself, teeth are only bones after all and not really meant to...
