Re: New here, have anxiety/doubts about my surgery!!!!!!!!!!

Oh no, sarahorsomeone! That's kind of funny though (waking up laughing, I mean :D ) Not so funny that you pulled some stitches... Both times I've been put under, I wake up feeling very confused & I told the nurses who were in the room something to the effect of "Hold on! I'm still awake, do...

Re: New here, have anxiety/doubts about my surgery!!!!!!!!!!

Nathaniel, I'm 35. I got the braces on my teeth in Aug '09 (when I was 33, almost 34). I can understand your concerns since you've never had a surgery before and have never been "put under". While it's different for everyone, I can say that being put under for me has never been a problem. ...

Re: New here, have anxiety/doubts about my surgery!!!!!!!!!!

I am going through the same things mentally as you are! I'm supposed to be getting the upper jaw done to fix an open bite. We've been going back & forth with my insurance company and finally last week I got the approval letter, so it's becoming more real to me now that things are really moving f...

To have surgery or not to have surgery?

Hi all, it's been a long time since I've logged in. I've been living with my braces since Aug '09, and so far, it's been nothing more than a minor inconvenience. Since day one, I've known that I'm going to need orthognathic surgery on my upper jaw in order to fix an open bite. I've been trying not t...

Ahh, the ortho fit me in yesterday and took the extra brackets off. The relief is wonderful! He said "Orthodontically speaking, these probably aren't absolutely necessary". I wish he'd have thought of that before he put them on last week. It would have saved me about 6 days of unnecessary ...

I'm 34 and got braces about a year ago. I have an "open bite" and my teeth were not straight. My ortho has been telling me from the start that I will need jaw surgery if I want to correct the open bite. It's not absolutely required, but if I want the open bite closed, then surgery is the o...

Brackets are causing me to chew on my cheek!

I've had the braces since last Aug. Yesterday I went in for an appointment with my ortho and he wanted to put new brackets on my back molars, next to the ones that are already there. I knew this was going to happen because 2 weeks ago they put spacers in to prepare the teeth for the brackets. What I...

So freaking nervous!

So I am supposed to be having orthoganthic surgery to correct an open bite. Date has not been set yet, but my ortho is saying probably later in the summer. In a nutshell, I am scared out of my wits!!!! I am scared of the surgery itself, I am not looking forward to being in the hospital (oral s...

New to the site, but not to the braces!

I found this site tonight while searching the net looking for some info regarding an unpleasant ortho visit I had today. Well, I'm glad I found this site! An online support group of sorts! I'm a 34 year old woman who got braces Aug. 4, 2009. So I've almost had them for a year now. I'll probably hav...
