Re: September 2011 Buddies!!!!

Hey everyone! Any updates from fellow September 2011 surgery buddies? I hope you all are well. I wanted to come on by and thank you all in this thread, and forum, for your support over the years. It definitely helped me get through the surgery and all the anxieties that followed. Best of luck to the...

Re: Advice needed

Marian! September Buddy! I also too have my braces on still! I kept my braces on longer than anticipated post-surgery. My ortho didn't force me to keep them on longer, nor should any ortho, but merely recommended for stability's sake. So I decided to go on several more months to make sure everything...

Re: Damaging your splint with hot food?

Mine wasn't damaged because of hot foods (liquids :) ), but the heavy spiced/seasoned soups did! Somehow it infused itself in my splint and left a horrid, lingering taste in my mouth. I had this carrot ginger soup and tomato soup - never again. Aside from being wired shut, I would say that THAT was ...

Re: numbness in the jaw

I am about 5 month post-op and I have some residual numbness on my right lower lip and chin. It has much improved overtime - the area affected has significantly been reduced. In general, if someone where to touch the affected area, I can tell which direction it's being touched. I can sense temperatu...

Re: September 2011 Buddies!!!!

Hey September Buddies! It's been such a while, and it seems there are several active issues. I'm sorry to hear you'll be undergoing another surgery Marian. Feb 28th is approaching, but I understand that it is not soon enough! I hope things gets resolved. Jeff/Jo - congrats on getting the braces full...

Re: 2 days post op - questions!

Congrats on getting to the other side! Things will only get better from here :). 1. I used ice packs for 3 days after surgery and eventually switched to heat. That's what the PA told me to do and so I did it. Swelling peaked at day 3-4 and went down afterwards. 2. I was on a liquid diet for 2 weeks....

Re: Wired Jaw - some questions

I was wired shut for 2 weeks. Talking was difficult. Imagine clenching your teeth together and talking - it's hard to project your voice and annunciate. Also, my sentences were often drawn out because I had to stop midway, breathe through my nose, instead of being able to talk and breathe by mouth. ...

Re: September 2011 Buddies!!!!

Congrats Jeff! You must be so excited to get your braces off that soon after surgery - I know I'm jealous! Marian - how come you changed orthos? I don't know if I would recommend not following the ortho's instructions as I would hope she has more knowledge than those of us wearing braces (but hey, I...

Hey September Buddies! How's everyone?? Sorry, been MIA. I guess it's pretty consistent once surgery comes most tend to disappear =). Jo - I am super glad you are fine. You've been through so much. Re: September 2011 Buddies!!!!

Jo - I wish you the best and like always, I know you will pull through. 3 surgeries and still strong. Let us know how everything goes! Jeff - I'm still numb (had surgery on 9/9); however, the area affected is getting smaller. Also, the numbness seems less? I don't know how to describe it. On the sur...

Re: September 2011 Buddies!!!!

Happy late Bday Jeff! Jo - I agree with Marian - get yourself some nice flowers! I'm not a flower guy, but my sister bought me a nice bouquet and interestingly it really helped to brighten my mood with all the colors. It also gave me a sense of purpose - for such a small task I was able to care for ...
