Re: lips hurting

Do you have wax you can use to cover the parts of your braces that are irritating the inside of your lip? That could at least help the inside feel better. My lips were very chapped and painful from being swollen post-op. I used Vaseline Lip Care on them almost constantly for the first three weeks an...

Re: What about sneezing?

I've sneezed 15 times since my January 8th surgery (Lefort & BSSO) and it wasn't as bad as I expected. (Yeah, I've been keeping a tally. :D) I tried very hard to stifle it, but it all came on very quickly. I read in some of my post-op paperwork that if you have to sneeze, to do it through your m...

Re: January 2013 Buddies

First day back at work! I've certainly missed the music on my office computer. :D I don't have a scale at home, so I've been curious to see how much weight I've lost. There's a scale in the break room here at work for a Biggest Loser competition they're doing, so I weighed myself this morning. I've ...

Re: January 2013 Buddies

e77: I lost like 15 pounds when I had my expander! It took so darn long to eat that I could only eat about 1/3 as much on my lunch breaks. And it seemed like all the food would squish right through the expander and be trapped between it and the roof of my mouth. A WaterPik is good for clearing that ...

Re: January 2013 Buddies

I think the speech impediment was my least favorite part of wearing an expander. It took a couple weeks for my gap to finally appear. I looked pretty scary, but it was exciting at the same time. :) I'm not sure when the end of my journey will be. My ortho said his last surgical patient was in braces...

Re: January 2013 Buddies

Just got back from my first followup with the surgeon. I wasn't banded shut right after surgery, but he put on a few tight elastics today to guide my bite. So now I have to relearn how to take meds and liquids somehow without opening my mouth. I know this will pass, but it's soooo frustrating right ...

Re: January 2013 Buddies

Thanks, Vanessa! I had SARPE in the summer of 2008 and I remember being so self-conscious about how crazy my teeth looked with the gap (in addition to being SO crooked.) :GapToothed:

You'll make quick progress now though, and it's so exciting to see how quickly and drastically everything changes!

January 2013 Buddies

Anybody else due for surgery this month? My big day is January 8 - upper and lower to correct an anterior open bite. It's both terrifying and exciting!

Ortho & Surgeon Disagree?

Has anyone had a similar experience? The surgeon my ortho referred me to says I need both upper and lower jaw surgery, while my ortho says he believes only upper is necessary. Does it have to come down to ME making the decision, or should they be working this out between them before we move any furt...
