My First Day in Braces

experiences of ArchWired readers

When I was growing up, my family had perfect teeth so mine was more of a joke than a priority. I would see kids at school and they were just getting their braces on. I remember being so jealous of them, so when I got married and my husband's insurance offered braces as part of the benefit so I jumped at the chance.

I got to the office, all I could feel was excitement. I was told that it would take two hours but that time consists of sanding, cleaning, and some other things. The actual process of putting them on was 30min. The glue was yucky as it drained down the back of my throat. When she was done my lips were chapped and my mouth felt tight.

As I was on my way home I was thinking "that doesn't hurt." Then I went home and went to sleep. I awoke to a pain the seemed like I got into a fight -- and lost! My lips were more chapped than ever and my teeth felt like they were about to fall out any minute. My husband asked was it worth it and all that I can say is that I have no regrets. It has been a month now and I can see some small change. The pain only lasts for a few days and thanks to Excedrine it went by fast!
