I have been thinking about
getting braces for a long time before I finally decided to get
on with it. My biggest concern was not the (possible) pain,
discomfort or money, but the way I would look with braces and
other peoples reaction to it! I'm usually a self-confident
person but the thought of wearing braces and having to face
people really concerned me. I write this story because I can
imagine that there are more people like me...
My braces came on almost two
months ago and I was very anxious about the whole thing. When
they were put on, it felt like I had a huge mouth and that day
I couldn't think of anything else but my braces. I was very
self-conscious about my looks. But believe me, the reaction of
other people was never negative. I've spoken to many people
who have had braces as an adult and many who admired me for
getting braces, saying they would need them but didn't have
the guts...
I'm now two months further
and most of the time, I just don't think about them anymore.
People react normal and positive (or don't react at all
because they don't notice I have braces) and I am confident
again about the way I look. Eating takes some time to get used
to but is really not that much of a problem. I had my second
adjustment recently and my teeth are a bit sensitive now but
that usually goes away after a day or two.
The best thing is that I can
really see the change is my teeth already. For you out there
hesitating about getting braces because you are concerned
about your looks and reactions from other people: it's
absolutely not as bad as you imagine now, life is just as fun
with braces as it is without! |
